Crave has put two more half-hours of Slo Pitch on the board, announcing the drop from the streamer’s own account with a line built for a locker-room speech: “Their entire season has prepared them for this moment.”
The 10-episode mockumentary is Crave’s second swing at the queer-sports sweet spot in under a year, following the breakout of hockey romance Heated Rivalry. Slo Pitch premiered Sept. 25 with two episodes, per the show’s announcement on Bell Media’s press site, and stars Emily Hampshire — who has since joined the cast of Heated Rivalry season two — as both performer and executive producer.
None of this is new turf for the title. Slo Pitch began as a short-form Canadian web series that debuted Aug. 3, 2020, on OUTtv’s streaming service, crossed to IFC in the United States in October 2021 and ran a second season there in June 2022, earning a 7.4 rating on IMDb. Crave’s expansion was created by J Stevens, Karen Knox and Gwenlyn Cumyn, and developed for television by Katie Ford and Jane Cooper Ford.
Jess Salgueiro — Eve in the Frasier reboot, with Workin’ Moms and Letterkenny on the résumé — plays Coach Joanne Pico. Hampshire appears as Leanne, with Knox as Boris, Cumyn as Ann, Chelsea Muirhead as Sasha, Emma Hunter as Barb, Lane Webber as Lee, Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah as Zari and Amanda Cordner as Mel.
The premise is a summer of strikeouts, petty rivalries, conservative-politician sponsors and carwash fundraisers gone wrong, all while Joanne tries to win a breakup: her ex and team co-founder now suits up for a rival squad.
Elliot Page’s PAGEBOY Productions co-produces with Shaftesbury and Boss & Co, marking Bell Media’s first project under its co-development deal with PAGEBOY. Japanese ace Ayami Sato, the first woman to play in a Canadian men’s professional baseball league, makes a cameo, PinkNews reported when the first look landed in August.
The season streams in English and French on Crave, with Shaftesbury handling international sales. American viewers still have no distributor to call, so the Public Lass Brovaries’ summer stays a strictly Canadian affair.
