Will there be a season 3 of Fleabag?

It’s been more than two years since Andrew Scott’s hot priest whispered “it’ll pass” to Fleabag’s “I love you”, and omfg, our world was shattered beyond reckoning! The intensity of the very scene: Fleabag’s lust and the priest’s maturity was (literally) enough to drive everyone perpetually crazy! Why was the “it’ll pass” so goddamn HOT?! And that too, in that sexy British accent! Ughhhh. That seemingly innocuous one-line was alone to shake off anybody!

But oh well, Andrew’s “it’ll pass” might have passed but the world’s fervor for a third season has not passed. And no, it just can’t pass! There’s no way that we can think beyond the intensity that was furnished to us in the concluding scene.

Fleabag season 3: What’s the show about?

Fleabag is a British-comedy drama series that swept the award season of 2019-2020, and rightfully so, but then abruptly ended with season two.

Created by ridiculously talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series premiered in 2016 on BBC3, and the creator and star, Waller-Bridge, returned for a second season in 2019.

With an eighth place on The Guardians’ Top 100 Best Shows of the 21st Century, Fleabag was even on former United States President Barack Obama’s list of favorite TV series in 2019.

Then, what happened? It’s been two years. Where is Fleabag Season 3? Is there a Fleabag Season 3 in the works? If the show ended, then why did it end? Here’s everything we know so far.

Will Fleabag Season 3 happen?

No. Fleabag season 3 will not happen. And though it might shatter your heart, that’s the truth, and we’re so sorry to break it to you.

Waller-Bridge, the creator and star of Fleabag, has been vocal about this several times. She appears confident in her decision not to renew Fleabag for a third season.

When asked by the BBC about Season 3, she said, “I have thought about it and there isn’t going to be one. This is it—this is the final curtain.” She added, “And yes, I did say that last time.”

According to what Waller-Bridge has stressed several times, there wouldn’t be a Season 3 for Fleabag.

Would Amazon or other cast members still be into it?

Yes. In April, Clifford confirmed to the BBC that “there will not be a third series.” However, she said, “I’m desperate to play Claire again.”

But the actress told ELLE U.K. that she was happy with the ending. “I think it was complete and it was perfect,” she said.

“I know it’s a contentious issue but I think it’s so hopeful, that ending because she finally opened herself up to love and being vulnerable which I think is our most powerful asset.”

Gelman, Clifford’s onscreen husband, also said he’d return, telling Vanity Fair, “The thing is that Phoebe is the Daniel Day-Lewis and Jay-Z of show-runners, announcing the end of things. Then she comes back and people go crazy.”

Most importantly, the brass at Flea Bag’s U.S. home, Amazon Prime, would welcome season 3. “Nothing would make us happier than to have her bring another season of that show or anything else she wants to do,” said the head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke, per The Hollywood Reporter.

She jokingly added, “I just am, like, basically [Phoebe’s] stalker. Anything Phoebe wants to do, we are signed up to do.”

Will Fleabag get a reboot?

Although Waller-Bridge appears to be confident in her decision not to renew Fleabag, she has also revealed her fantasy of bringing Fleabag back when she is 45 or 50.

“I feel like it’s done, but I do have a fantasy of bringing her back when I’m, like, 45 or 50. She went on the biggest journey over the past two seasons, and she started as someone who sort of hated herself and ended up as someone believing that she could love again and forgive herself. I have to respect that arc and let her go and live for a bit.” she said to The Hollywood Reporter.

That kind of puts forth the situation that there might be a Fleabag reboot in the future. But, as of now, there’s nothing to look forward to.

What else has Waller-Bridge got coming up?

The visionary behind Fleabag would be forgiven for pivoting away to work on other projects.

The 34-year-old created and serves as executive producer for the BBC series Killing Eve, which returns for a third season this spring.

She also worked on the script for the upcoming James Bond movie, No Time to Die, and is co-writing and co-starring in a new HBO series, Run. So the logistics of season 3 aren’t necessarily there.
