Hamlet, the indecisive yet sympathetic prodigal son will come into life in this new live action adaptation of one of the most iconic Shakespearean plays, starring Riz Ahmed, Morfydd Clark, Joe Alywn. Hamlet, narrates the story of the titular character in his quest to expose the murderer of his father, Claudius (the father’s brother). However, this new adaptation is a modern one with the Prince of Denmark being one among London’s elite circles. The original Hamlet began with Hamlet returning back to Denmark and realizing that his father is now dead and his mother has married his father’s brother who sits upon the throne now. Having known the truth behind it all, the rest of the play focuses on how Hamlet remains divided in his decision to avenge his fathers death, failing to murder Claudius even when the opportunity presents itself. The play ends with a duel between Claudius and Hamlet wherein Hamlet finally succeeds in killing him and in the process dies.
There have been several film adaptations of the play such as the 1996 movie titled, ‘Hamlet’, the Hindi language film ‘Haider’ and the ‘Lion King’ which is loosely based on the play. The upcoming adaptation will be streaming on Netflix with Storyteller Productions taking up the production of the feature film.
