This upcoming dystopian film centers on a chilling tale of maternal instincts and filial love overpowering the ones in power. Titled, ‘Motherland’, the feature film takes place in the near future wherein parents are prohibited from forming any bond with their offspring, knowing or raising them. However, the system is challenged by a woman who forms a protective bond with her estranged daughter. Choice Films and MPI Original Films will be heading the development of the film which has reportedly commenced its shooting in October this year. Newburgh, a widely used filming set, is to serve as the location for ‘Motherland’.
Choice Films is a New York based production company credited with a number of popular works such as, ‘The Whale’ starring Brendan Fraser and Sadie Sink, ‘Pretty Little Liars’ which featured Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario in lead roles and ‘I Know This Much is True’ starring Mark Ruffalo. MPI Original Films is another established production company, known for, ‘Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game’ which they co- produced alongside Choice Films, ‘Freedom Hair’, ‘Melons’, ‘One Second After’ and ‘A Piece of Cake’.
A Look at the Crew for ‘Motherland’
Creators, Lana Link, Tony Glazer, Rob Pfaltzgraff and Nick Reid will be joining the production team for ‘Motherland’. Lana Link is a known producer and writer who is also the vice president of MPI Original Pictures. Tony Glazer is an established artist and a Managing Partner at Choice Films. Rob Pfaltzgraff is the president of MPI Original Films while Nick Reid is an executive producer at the same.
Nicole Swinford, a talented artist, is boarding the crew as the film’s writer. Nicole Swinford is also an author whose works include, ‘Amelia Earhart’s Last Flight to Hawaii’ and more. ‘Motherland’ is rumored to be directed by Evan Matthews, an emerging filmmaker. His filmography include, ‘Recoil’ and ‘Teleios Act’.
What to Expect?
Seeing as how the film is centered on motherhood, it does offer a new approach to the dystopian genre. The film representations of society’s future is often aimed at exploring the possibilities that the current way of living can lead to. Dystopian films take on the negative aspect of such worlds. ‘Motherland’ focuses on the same by showcasing how restriction only generates more aggression. Seeing as how the filming of ‘Motherland’ is expected to conclude by the end of 2023, audience can expect the announcement of a potential release date soon enough.
