A sequel to the 2021 film, ‘The Black Phone’ is reportedly under production. Being a short story adaptation by the author Joe Hill, the film followed a young boy’s attempts at escaping a sadistic serial killer through the assistance of the ghosts of the killer’s previous victims. Some of the works of Joe Hill include, ‘Heart-Shaped Box’, ‘Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft’, ’20th Century Ghosts’ and ‘Strange Weather’. Taken up under Blumhouse, Crooked Highway and Universal Pictures, the 2021 horror thriller starred Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Miguel Cazarez Mora and more. The film received positive reception from the critics, and is now set to commence the shooting for its sequel in early 2024. Blumhouse is a production company who primarily work in productions belonging to the horror genre. some of their other works include, ‘M3gan’, ‘Insidious: The Red Door’, ‘The Exorcist: Believer’ and more. Crooked Highway is another production company whose works include, ‘Midnight Radio’, ‘Full Body Burden’ and more. Universal Pictures is an established production company.
The original film featured Ethan Hawke in the role of the “Grabber”, a child abductor and murderer who kidnaps a 13-year-old boy named Finney. Locked in the basement, Finney finds a disconnected telephone that begins ringing. When he finally answers it, he realizes that he is communicating with the spirits of the Grabber’s deceased victims who in turn teach Finney how to survive and fight back and finally, he is able to escape the Grabber.
Reprisals for the Sequel
As per our sources, Blumhouse, Crooked Highway and Universal Pictures will be taking up the upcoming sequel to ‘The Black Phone’ titled as, ‘The Black Phone 2’. Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will be returning to the crew as the film’s producers. Jason Blum is the CEO of Blumhouse Productions. Scott Derrickson is a known filmmaker whose works include, ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Deliver Us from Evil’ and ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ to name a few. C. Robert Cargill is primarily known as a screenwriter whose works include, ‘Sinister’ film series, ‘No Man of God’ and ‘Something In The Dirt’ among others. Additionally, the producers will be joined by Joe Hill, Ryan Turek and Graham Clegg. Ryan Turek has previously worked in ‘Behind the Monsters’, ‘Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective’ and more. Graham Clegg is another producer whose works include, ‘Murdoch Mysteries’.
With the upcoming sequel in its developmental stage, ‘The Black Phone 2’ is predicted to premiere in June 2025
