Shooter Will Be Delayed Because of Ryan Phillippe’s Injury
Things are different on set for USA’s Shooter because of an odd accident off-set.
The thriller’s second season, originally scheduled to have 10 episodes, will now only have eight, according to Deadline. On September 5, the Season 2 finale will now air.
The choice was made when actor Ryan Phillippe injured his leg earlier this month while visiting his family.
1. hey, guys. i didn't injure myself doing a stunt or anywhere near the set of shooter. i was the victim of a freak accident during a family
— Ryan Phillippe (@RyanPhillippe) July 17, 2017
On July 17, Phillippe posted on Twitter, “I was the victim of a freak accident during a family outing on Sunday.” “My leg is badly broken and needed surgery, but I’ll recover completely, I’m in good hands, and I’ll be back to work soon,”
The show was recording its ninth episode of the season then, so he wasn’t back in action for long. The USA thought it would be best to end the season there because the eighth episode reportedly had a conclusion that may serve as a season finale.
In Shooter, Phillippe plays Bob Lee Swagger, a former sniper called back into duty after learning of a conspiracy to kill the US president. Schedule hiccups in the show’s production or broadcast are nothing new. The start of the series’ first season was postponed following a shooting spree in July 2016.
