Logan is sharpening his claws at the last possible moment. New in-game combat footage from Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine has surfaced just one day before the PlayStation 5 exclusive reaches players.
DiscussingFilm shared the footage on X Monday, crediting gameplay creator Farzam Plays and describing it simply as “New in-game combat footage from Insomniac’s ‘WOLVERINE.’” The clip arrives as Sony’s long-awaited superhero game enters the final hours of its marketing campaign.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026, exclusively on PS5. The release date was first announced in September 2025 after Insomniac revealed that its standalone Logan adventure would arrive in fall 2026, ending years of uncertainty surrounding the project.
The timing is notable because the game was announced nearly five years ago, at the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase. Insomniac initially showed only a cinematic teaser, presenting a battered Logan sitting in a Madripoor bar before the camera revealed his trademark claws.
The finished combat system is built around Wolverine’s rage. According to PlayStation’s hands-on report, successful combos raise Logan through three Rage Tiers, increasing his attack power and unlocking more aggressive abilities. At the second tier, he gains Last Stand, which can use accumulated rage to revive him after being downed.
That design is part of a broader shift away from Insomniac’s web-slinging formula. The studio’s previous Marvel games centered on Spider-Man’s mobility and open-world traversal; Wolverine instead emphasizes close-quarters brutality, stealth through Logan’s enhanced senses and cinematic encounters with enemies including The Hand.
Fans have already seen more of the project than Insomniac intended. A December 2023 ransomware attack exposed 1.67 terabytes of studio data, including early Wolverine development material. Insomniac said at the time that the breach would not halt production and that the game would evolve before its official release.
Now the official version is nearly here.
With launch set for September 15, this latest combat glimpse lands less as a first reveal than as a final slash across the finish line.
