Following her 2023 release, ‘Boston Stranglers’, Kiera Knightley is rumored to be in talks for another crime thriller ‘Black Doves’ , Netflix’s upcoming project. Known for her role as Elizabeth Swann in Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series and several other works such as ‘Atonement’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Anna Karenina’, Knightley is a pro in performing characters in period pieces. Produced by Jane Featherstone, Chris Fry and Harry Munday, the series will portray Helen, a woman who assumes a secret identity and eventually engages in an affair with an individual. However, when her lover is preyed upon by the shady underworld of London, Helen’s life is inevitably under danger. When her agency sends Sam, who is tasked to protect her, the two find their way through the diplomatic tensions that surfaces in the country. ‘Black Doves’ is supposedly set during the time of Christmas which is a rather rare concept in the thriller genre.
Being developed under Noisy Bear production company, ‘Black Doves’ will perhaps begin its shooting by next month in London.
Alex Gabassi to Join the Crew
Alex Gabassi, who is associated with ‘The Crown’, ‘The Frankenstein Chronicles’ and ‘The ABC Murders’ is set to direct Netflix’s this upcoming thriller. Crime thrillers and historically inspired entertainers are a usual in Alex Gabassi’s filmography with ‘The Crown’ being a take on the monarchy of Britain and ‘The ABC Murders’, as its name indicates, being a crime drama. The same zeal can be expected for ‘Black Doves’ as Alex Gabassi works to create yet another quality piece alongside Joe Barton, the writer for the series. Joe Barton has worked in numerous works such as ‘The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself’, ‘The Ritual’ and ‘My Days of Mercy’, some of which are streamed on Netflix.
The other additions to the crew for ‘Black Doves’ are Emma Downes and Mark Patten who are both established in their line of work. Not a lot of information is available regarding the actors who would possibly join the cast as no official updates have been made. Yet, Kiera Knightley seems perfect for the role as the actress is immensely renowned for her acting skills.
The addition of Christmas setting in the plot is intriguing as Christmas is essentially a holiday associated with joy and happiness while the plot is obviously accentuating to the thriller genre. The combination appears as a novel attempt at experimenting with the theme which might just work as the thriller genre is definitely in need of fresh ideas.
