The popular video game Minecraft is set to have its first film adaptation and you will not guess who is starring in this 2025 feature film! ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ is set to star none other than one of Hollywood’s most celebrated icons, Jason Momoa. Directed by Jared Hess, (an established filmmaker who along with his wife Jerusha Elizabeth Hess, is credited with a number of works including ‘Napoleon Dynamite’, and ‘Gentlemen Broncos’) ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ will explore the journey of a young girl and her group of unexpected accomplices who set out to save the Overworld from the Ender Dragon.
Jason Momoa did his first acting role in ‘Baywatch Hawaii’ in which he played the role of Jason Loane. This was followed by several noteworthy performances from the actor including Khal Drogo from HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, Conan in the 2011 ‘Conan the Barbarian’, Arthur Curry/ Aquaman in DC’s ‘Aquaman’, Duncan Idaho in ‘Dune’ and many more. As per the rumors, Jason Momoa will most likely take the center stage for ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ alongside Matty Berry, another popular star known for his performance in ‘Toast of London’, ‘The IT Crowd’, ‘The Mighty Boosh’ and other British comedies.
The Production Team
The production team for the upcoming feature film includes Mary Parent (Disruption Entertainment), Roy Lee (Vertigo Entertainment), Vu Bui (Mojang Studios – makers of Minecraft), Lydia Winters (Mojang Studios – makers of Minecraft), Jon Berg (Stampede Ventures), and Cale Boyter (Academy Award nominee). Additionally, Torfi Frans Olafsson (director/ producer), Kayleen Walters (Minecraft Team), Brian Andrew Mendoza (director/ producer/ writer), and Jon Spaihts (author/ screenwriter) are rumored to join the team. Allison Schroeder, an Academy Award nominee and a reputed screenwriter will be writing the screenplay for ‘Minecraft: The Movie’.
With the shooting potentially commencing on spring next year, ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ will most likely premiere in 2025. The film is reportedly shot in Auckland, New Zealand.

Ender Dragon and the Overworld
Ender Dragon is a character that appears in the Minecraft video game and is a “hostile Boss Mob” that attacks the players. Guessing from the plot, Ender Dragon will most likely be the main antagonist of the upcoming feature film. The protagonists of ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ will embark on adventures to put an end to Ender Dragon and protect the Overworld, the space which ties all the levels and locations in the video game.
