The plot for this upcoming dystopian film is bound to leave you puzzled. When five teenage orphans are put in a strange building with no walls, ceiling or floor they are quick to notice that the only thing present in the building are an endless flight of stairs leading in every direction, seemingly infinite. Left with no memory of how they got into the building in the first place, the 16 year olds must learn to deal with each other’s contrasting personalities, the lack of privacy, purpose and comfort, their clear helplessness, and a machine that only feeds them under increasingly ominous situations. ‘House of Stairs’ will focus on yet another potential dimension of dystopian experiments that has never been explored before.
Wi Ding Ho will be possibly directing this upcoming film that is reportedly commencing its production by December, this year. Wi Ding Ho is an emerging filmmaker whose skills truly shine in his works, ‘Terrorizers’, ‘Cities of Last Things’ and ‘Our Sister Mambo’. The plot for the film is set in a futuristic America while the location for the shooting is rumored to be in Montreal.
Jacob Tremblay to Lead the Cast
Jacob Tremblay, a talented actor is supposedly in talks for the lead role in ‘House of Stairs’. Being a recipient of numerous accolades such as the Canadian Screen Award and the Critics’ Choice Movie Award, Jacob Tremblay is known for his roles in films such as, ‘Wonder’, ‘Before I Wake’ and ‘The Book of Henry’.
Matthew McInerney-Lacombe will be writing the screenplay for the upcoming film which is taken up under Band With Pictures, an emerging film production company. Matthew McInerney-Lacombe is another surfacing artist who will be working alongside the crew in ensuring an effective deliverance. As for the members of the production team, creators including Michael Solomon, Alexis Perrin, Noémie Devide, David Levine, Adrian Love, Vincent Maraval, Benoit Roland, Nick Shumaker, Jeremy Smith, Garrett Kembell and Kim Fox are said to be joining. Other additions to the crew include, Des Hamilton and Ruth O’Dowd.
Not much is known regarding the potential actors for the film, yet, the addition of Jacob Tremblay ensures quality performance as his accolades and roles does prove to be. It has been a while since there has been dystopian entertainers with storylines that experiment with themes of space and community. Most of the time, the focus of the films/ shows belonging to the genre appear to be solely focused on the survival part. Though ‘House of Stairs’ is also ultimately about survival, it also directs its attention to other aspects that emerge when an unexpected community is formed. It will be interesting to see how the film will possibly conclude and we are pretty sure that this movie has already managed to peak your interests.
