With remakes gaining momentum in the recent years, we have pertinent news for you as the 1968 horror film, ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ is set to be remade again. ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ was a psychological film leaning towards the horror genre about a fictional woman ‘Rosemary Woodhouse’ who grows increasingly suspicious of her neighbors whom she believes is after her developing baby, to use it for their supposed cult practices. Being released on June 12, 1968, ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ was a Paramount Pictures’ production. The original film starred Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes in lead roles as Rosemary Woodhouse and Guy Woodhouse respectively. Other films of Mia Farrow include, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘Hannah and Her Sisters’ and ‘The Watcher’. Some of John Cassavetes’ films include, ‘Opening Night’, ‘The Dirty Dozen’ and ‘A Woman Under the Influence’. The 1968 film received a sequel in 1976, titled, ‘Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby’ with Ruth Gordon reprising her role as Minnie Castevet, a primary antagonist.
‘Rosemary’s Baby’ was initially a horror novel composed by an American writer Ira Levin which had the same plot as the movie. The 1967 novel received a sequel thirty years later with the title, ‘Son of Rosemary’. Though ‘Son of Rosemary’ was not the source text of the sequel to the film, it still possessed similarities with, ‘Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby’ which was released later on.
Emma Stone to Star in the Remake of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’
‘Rosemary’s Baby’ was originally remade for the first time as a two part miniseries with the same name starring, ‘Zoe Saldana’ and ‘Patrick J. Adams’ as Rosemary Woodhouse and Guy Woodhouse respectively. However, the location for this remake was Paris unlike New York where the first film was set. In the upcoming remake, Emma Sone is supposedly in talks for the lead role of Rosemary Woodhouse. Emma stone is a talented artist with her films being, ‘Cruella’, ‘Easy A’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ film series and ‘La La Land’ among others. She is also the recipient of numerous accolades such as the ‘Academy Award’, ‘British Academy Film Award’ and more besides other nominations.
The plot for the film will most likely be the same as the original film, with Rosemary Woodhouse and her husband Guy, moving into a sought-after Manhattan apartment, The Bramford, that has Victorian details and a gargoyled façade. Once they learn the darker side to the building’s history and become acquainted with their elderly yet oddly suspicious neighbors, the Castevets, tensions enter into the young couples’ relationship. Once Rosemary becomes pregnant, she begins to question her neighbors’ heightened interest alongside those of Guy himself.
