Johnny Martin’s upcoming project is a feature film titled as ‘A Fighting Chance’ which will explore a woman gaining ownership of her life back through a new found passion in boxing. Being taken up under Empowering Entertainment, the feature film will potentially begin its shooting by this fall with an approved SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement to continue casting. Empowering Entertainment is an emerging production company. Other additions to the crew besides Johnny Martin include producers Jason Barbeck, Pip Bola and Michael McHale. Additionally, Slavica Bogdanov will be composing the screenplay for ‘A Fighting Chance’. Daniel Hank is also said to be joining the team.
Johnny Martin is a known artist who has had more than 2 decades of experience in the film industry. Jason Barbeck, is an actor, producer and director whose works include ‘A History of Violence’ which premiered in 2005, ‘Tiger Claws’ film series, ‘When the Bullet Hits the Bone’ which was directed is Damian Lee, ‘Meet Prince Charming’ which premiered as a romantic comedy, and more. Pip Bola is an emerging producer whose works include, ‘Divided We Fall’ and ‘Sendler’s Children’. Michael McHale is another surfacing producer. Together, the three artists will be heading the production crew. Slavica Bogdanov is a known writer and has previously worked with Pip Bola for the movie, ‘Sendler’s Children’. Her other works include, ‘A Walking Miracle’ and ’52 Days’. For, ‘A Fighting Chance’, Slavica Bogdanov will also be taking up the role of the film’s co- producer.
Plot of ‘A Fighting Chance’
Alicia is a woman in her late 20s, working as a reporter. Alicia has witnessed physical abuse from a very young age when at 7, her older brothers used to distract her by cracking jokes and encouraging her dances in the basement so that she does not hear the beating of her mother upstairs. Presently, she is in a relationship with a physically abusive boyfriend who punches her in the face, verbally harasses her and pins her to the fall as he yells insults at her. Enduring all this silently, Alicia has an incredible amount of pent up anger. When she is forced to do a story about a boxing gym for at-risk youths, her initial distaste slowly fades and gets replaced with a strong passion for the sport. The more she spends time at the gym, the more she decides to take up boxing seriously finally finding a great relief for all the anger that is built up inside of her. Eventually, having honed her skills, she decides to train rigorously and actually compete in real fights. As she battles her past and present, Alicia transforms into an incredible woman who gets her life back.
