An adaptation of the American writer Sigrid Nunez’s novel, ‘The Friend’ is reportedly in the works. It is allegedly being directed under the careful expertise of the prolific American filmmaker duo of Scott McGehee and David Siegel. Additionally, this upcoming American dramatic piece of film has also been listed as future projects under the renowned set of actors which include ‘Home and Away’ star Naomi Watts, William James Murray, ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’ actress Sarah Pidgeon, ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ actress, Constance Wu, ‘Marley and Me’ actress Ann Dowd and lastly the ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ actress Noma Dumezweni.
The Friend’ follows a New York writer that has been faced with the unexpected death of her lifelong friend and mentor. Consequently, she is left to deal with his complicated literary legacy, three eccentric former wives and a broken-hearted Great Dane called Apollo. It follows a carefully and intimately constructed story of grief, love, friendship and healing. According to Sigrid Nunez, the very appearance of an animal in the plot triggers a note of tenderness, cordiality and humor. The flick is currently in production in New York and is being produced by McGehee and Siegel for their Big Creek Projects company. As of the 26th of February, Naomi Watts and Bill Murray were confirmed to be heading this dramatic comedy adaptation from Scott McGehee and David Siegel from an exclusive article which was published by Deadline. Following this event, American actor and film director, Felix Solis and ‘Kingdom of the Planet of Apes’ actor Owen Teague were also set to be joining the British Actress and American actor and comedian in the appearances made throughout the project as per another exclusive report done by Deadline. However, there have been little details provided as to the roles each of these actors will be playing in this film, it has however been speculated that Naomi Watts is set to play the lead role. Fans of the directorial duo and the prolific cast of actors impatiently await for the release date of this ambitious drama.
