ITV’s Manhunt is a crime drama series based on true events involving numerous investigations by the cops such as murder, rapes, sexual violence, and robbery. The series is directed by Marc Evans and written by Colin Sutton and Ed Whitmore. The series stars Martin Clunes, Claudie Blakley, and Stephen Wight.
A Short Recap on Seasons 1 & 2
The first season of the hit drama series premiered on January 6, 2019. The three-episode season centered on the real-life tale encroaching the invention into the murder of a Fench student named Amélie Delagrange. The successive manhunt finally led to the capture of Levi Bellfield for Delagrange’s death, and many other well-known public profiles, yet formerly unsolved cases.
This series is based on the true story of the police investigation of a series of rapes, sexual assaults, and burglaries that took place in South East London between 1992 and 2009. A dedicated unit, Operation Minstead, was established to hunt down the man who became known as the Night Stalker.
Speaking to the former DCI, Colin Sutton, he spilled details of the 17 long-year investigations, Sutton was asked if “Manhunt The Night Stalker” was based on one of the books he wrote. He explains, “I have written a book about the Night Stalker case. The title of the book is Manhunt The Night Stalker, and it is due to be published at the same time as the transmission of the drama.”
He continued, “The story begins when Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell – who had been the SIO who led the Jill Dando investigation – asked you to conduct an investigative review of Operation Minstead to see if any opportunities to catch the Night Stalker had been missed. This request followed the Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson expressing$ !! deep concern “that Operation Minstead had failed to track down the Night Stalker.
“That’s how I came to be involved. Sir Paul Stephenson took over as Commissioner. Someone highlighted Operation Minstead to him and he said we need to make this a priority to do something about it. Hamish Campbell’s view of things was although Bellfield was a rapist he was a serial long-time sexual offender, or motivated by sex in some ways, and it might be worth getting me to have a look at the Night Stalker because I had that recent experience (with the Bellfield case). So that is how I came to be doing it.”
Fans absolutely seem to love this show and are anxious to know if the story will continue further. We might have to wait for more updates on that.
