Bad Robot Productions who are known for their sci-fi and action entertainers, are reportedly taking up a new production, this time, a remake of the popular 2016 anime film, ‘Your Name’. ‘Your Name’ is a romantic fantasy that follows two high school students who have never met before but soon discover that they are magically and intermittently swapping bodies. Their new found ability ends up being pivotal when a disaster threatens to upend their lives and they work together and meet to save their worlds. The 2016 film had Ryunosuke Kamiki, Mone Kamishiraishi, Ryo Narita and more giving voices to the characters. Upon its premiere, ‘Your Name’ was well received with the film earning a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and bagging several accolades. Makoto Shinkai is the creator of the 2016 ‘Your Name’.
The upcoming feature film will be a re- imagined version of the 2016 ‘Your Name’ and its development will potentially be taken up under Bad Robot alongside Toho Co. and Paramount Pictures. Some of the popular works of Bad Robot include, ‘Cloverfield’ film franchise, ‘Star Trek’ film series starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and more, ‘Lou’ which premiered in 2022 and more. Toho Co. is another known entertainment company whose works include, ‘Godzilla’ film series (for which they are mostly popular), ‘The Boy and the Heron’ which premiered in 2023, ‘Wolf Children’ which premiered in 2012 and more. Also, the company was a part of the 2016 ‘Your Name’. Paramount Pictures is an established production company based in Los Angeles.
Meet the Crew
Carlos López Estrada is rumored to direct the upcoming film while Emily V. Gordon and Eric Heisserer will potentially compose its screenplay. Carlos López Estrada is a popular director who is known for his works, ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ a fantasy adventure, ‘Blindspotting’ which premiered in 2018 and more. Emily V. Gordon is known both as a writer and producer and her works include, ‘The Big Sick’ a romantic comedy and ‘Little America’ a drama, among others. Eric Heisserer is a notable filmmaker and comic- book writer whose works include, ‘Shadow and Bone’ series, ‘Final Destination 5’, ‘Bird Box’ a sci- fi horror film and more.
J.J. Abrams, Genki Kawamura, Christine Otal and Jon Cohen will most likely join the crew for the upcoming feature film as its producers. J.J. Abrams is the founder of Bad Robot Productions and is known both as a filmmaker and has directed several of the projects under Bad Robot. He is also a recipient of numerous accolades. Genki Kawamura is a known author and screenwriter whose works include, ‘If Cats Disappeared from the World’ the novel which premiered in 2012, ‘Train Man’ which premiered in 2005, ‘A Hundred Flowers’ a drama and ‘Monster’ which was directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, to name a few. Christine Otal is the Senior Vice President of Film at Milleniu, Films and is a known producer. Her works include, ‘Angel Has Fallen’ which premiered in 2019, ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ film series and more. Jon Cohen is another known director/ producer.
