A remake of the 1992 film, ‘The Bodyguard’ is reportedly under production with Rideback taking up its development. Rideback is a known film and television production company whose works include, ‘The Lego Movie’ film series featuring Will Arnett, Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks, ‘Haunted Mansion’ a horror film which was directed by Justin Simien, ‘It’ film series which is an adaptation of the popular novel series by Stephen King, and more. The upcoming feature film will be produced by Dan Lin, Jonathan Eirich and Larry Kasdan. Dan Lin is the founder and CEO of Rideback and is a known producer. Jonathan Eirich is the President of Rideback and is another established producer. Larry Kasdan is another renowned producer whose works include, ‘Dreamcatcher’ which premiered in 2003, ‘French Kiss’ which premiered in 1995 and starred Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline in lead roles and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ which was directed by Ron Howard, to name a few. Larry Kasdan was previously a producer of the original 1992 film, ‘The Bodyguard’.
Katie Lovejoy, an emerging artist, is rumored to join the crew for the upcoming feature film as its writer. Some of her known works include, ‘Love at First Sight’ which premiered in 2023 on Netflix and ‘To All the Boys: Always and Forever’ the third film in the ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved before’ film series. Baz Luhrmann will most likely be directing the upcoming remake. Baz Luhrmann is a known filmmaker whose works include, ‘The Great Gatsby’ which premiered in 2013 and is an adaptation of the popular novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald, ‘Elvis’ which premiered in 2022 and is a biopic on the popular singer Elvis Presley and ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Claire Danes, John Leguizamo, Paul Rudd and more.
The Original ‘The Bodyguard’
The 1992 film narrated an epic love story in the form of a musical and featured Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in the lead roles. The film is also popular for its iconic song, ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston. The film’s plot revolved around Rachel who is a popular singer and actor and Frank, an ex- Secret Service Agent. When Rachel receives death threats, she hires Frank to be her bodyguard and what develops is an emotional story on love and reliance.
The upcoming feature film will also stay true to the original story with subtle changes. The new version will have the bodyguard as a former Iraq war veteran who gets the job protecting the star as his first gig after leaving the Army. However, the advent of the world governed by Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ and other technological advancements which makes access to celebrities easier than ever consequentially makes the job of this bodyguard more difficult than ever. The upcoming feature film is currently in its development stage.
