Youn Yuh-jung already has an Oscar on her shelf. Now, the actor has a first Emmy nomination — for the kind of role that gives a prestige anthology its sharpest edge.
Netflix announced the news in an X post, calling Youn a “First-time Emmy nominee” as she was recognized for her performance as Chairwoman Park in the second season of Beef.
The nomination is for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, according to the Television Academy’s official listing. Youn joins co-stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Charles Melton among the season’s acting nominees.
It is a major new chapter in an awards run that has already made history. In April 2021, Youn won the Academy Award for supporting actress for Minari, becoming the first Korean performer to win an acting Oscar. The Academy’s official records list that as her first Oscar nomination as well as her victory.
Five years later, television is recognizing her for a very different character. Chairwoman Park is a wealthy Korean businesswoman whose country-club empire sits at the center of Beef Season 2’s blackmail war. Netflix describes the season as an eight-episode continuation with a new cast and a new feud, rather than a direct continuation of Danny and Amy’s story from Season 1.
The show has a formidable Emmy history already.
Beef’s first season, released in 2023, won eight Emmys, including acting prizes for Steven Yeun and Ali Wong and the award for outstanding limited or anthology series. The second season’s nomination haul helped Netflix collect 111 nominations across 34 series, specials and films at the 2026 ceremony, according to Netflix’s nominations roundup.
Youn’s nod also places one of South Korea’s most celebrated screen performers in a television race after decades of work across film and drama. Her Emmy debut comes opposite nominees including Laurie Metcalf, Naomi Watts and Cailee Spaeny, making the category a meeting point for established award winners and first-time contenders.
After Minari made Oscar history, Youn now has another awards envelope in sight — this time from television.
