Sunswept Entertainment’s upcoming production is a feature film which is a sequel to one of Hollywood’s most cherished classics, ‘Karate Kid’. The original ‘Karate Kid’ premiered in 1984 and starred Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. Centered on a young boy who masters karate to stand up to his bullies under the tutelage of Mr. Miyagi. Upon its premiere, the film was such a huge success that it immediately received sequels and a remake starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. The upcoming feature film is predicted to feature two icons of the separate eras of the film series, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio in a new plot with Sofia Wylie potentially serving as the protagonist. Sofia Wylie is another known actress who will possibly play the role of Mia in the upcoming feature film.
For the development of ‘Karate Kid’, Sunswept Entertainment will be collaborating with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Some of the known works of Sunswept Entertainment, an established production company are, ‘Me Before You’ which premiered in 2016, ‘Max’ film series, ‘Twilight’ film series, ‘The Book Thief’ which was directed by Brian Percival, and more. Currently, what we do known is that the film will have Montreal as its primary location. Moreover, it is scheduled to commence its filming in April, 2024.
Who is Part of the Crew?
Karen Rosenfelt will be heading the production for the upcoming feature film. Being a known producer, she has previously worked in several of Sunswept Entertainment’s productions such as ‘Twilight’ film series and more. Jonathan Entwistle will be joining the crew for ‘Karate Kid’ as its director. Some of the popular works of Jonathan Entwistle include, ‘I Am Not Okay With This’ which premiered in 2020 and ‘The End of the F***ing World’ which ran for 2 seasons. Rob Lieber will be composing the screenplay for the upcoming feature film which will most likely finish its shooting by June, next year.
The upcoming feature film will showcase Li, a skilled fighter and a student in Beijing who’s world is turned upside down when his mom decides that they’re moving to Brooklyn for a job opportunity. Struggling to get past a recent tragedy and his differences with his doctor mother (who is dealing with the same tragedy but in an altogether different manner), Li finds purpose when he meets Mia who goes to his high school and her dad, Victor, who runs a pizza restaurant in his new neighborhood. As a strong bond gradually develops between them, Li begins to train Victor in the art and finds himself back in the ring as well.
