Merlin, a British fantasy drama series made its debut in 2008 on BBC One. Its last episode of the fifth installment was aired in 2012. Since then, fans are keenly awaiting its return for a sixth season. Sadly, there is no official confirmation about the making or release of Merlin season 6. However, we are hopeful that the popular series will make a comeback.
Merlin Story So Far
Merlin centralizes around the legendary King Arthur and the famous warlock, Merlin. The latter joins the court physician, Gaius at Camelot kingdom at his mother’s request. Young Merlin finds that practicing magic in Uther pendragon’s kingdom is banned for two decades. After saving Arthur’s life, Merlin gains the position of Arthur’s male servant. Initially, Merlin finds the King pompous and haughty. But his destiny is linked to the KIng, he is destined to protect the prince of Camelot. Merlin uses magic secretively to fulfill this destiny. As time passes by, Merlin and Arthur share many adventurous experiences which make them trusted companions of each other. Over the years, they earn each other’s respect as well. In the end, they come together to save their home, Camelot.
Merlin Season 6 Story: What to expect?
As we mentioned above, the release of Merlin season 6 isn’t confirmed. Also, there are no updates about the expected storyline or plot for the series. But we can make certain assumptions based on the previous episodes.
In the previous season we saw that after returning to the kingdom, Merlin’s mom arranges his stay with court physician Gaius. He is a young at heart warlock. Treasure trove that the King of Camelot, Uther Pendragon, banned magic two years ago. And, imprisoned the Last Dragon below his fort to serve as a caution for the felons.
Very soon Merlin got to know about his inner voice. It then guides him about his fortune. Destiny proclaimed Merlin’s tasks to save Arthur. Later on, when Arthur faces the truth of his secrets, he turns into a mighty king.
Arthur is an innocent personality. Merlin is just a servant who saves his life. After their meet-up, they face adventures together. And thus, save the kingdom from the wicked souls.
Until now, there is no such plot, which can be assumed as per assumptions. But if there is any additional season it catches up from the last season story. If the makers make any updates, we will update it here. Stay tuned!
Merlin Season 6: When is it coming?
Season 5 was dropped in December 2012 and in the same year, the creators confirmed that the season will be the last installment of the series. The news came as a surprise for the fans worldwide. Unfortunately, the announcement of part sixth is the last thing we see coming. Yet if giant digital network channels chose to pick up this series, a sixth part is a possibility.
Merlin season 1 to season 5 is available on the streaming platform, Netflix for fans. It consists of 65 episodes with the finale dividing into two parts. Fans have always the option to rewatch the adventure fantasy series, whenever they wish to delve into the world of King Arthur and his adventures.
Created by Julian Jones, Jake Michie, Johnny Capps, and Julian Murphy, the series garnered positive reviews as well as negative ones. Though the series witnessed a spike with its next releases, which made it iPlayer’s one of the most popular programs. Talking about Merlin and missing out on our favorite characters is not possible. Their outstanding performances and powerful characters have made us remember this series even after 9 years.
As of 2022, the series stands canceled by Syfy and a sixth season of Merlin won’t happen. The fifth season was the final outing of the show.

Merlin Season 6 will not happen!
Merlin showrunners, Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, confirmed that the fifth season was the final season of the series. “This is the series where the storylines truly reach their apex. We always felt the story of the legend was best told across five series, leading to a spectacular finale that draws on the best known elements of this much-loved story and brings to a conclusion the battle for Camelot,” they explained in a joint statement.
“We’d like to thank the amazing cast and crew for their professionalism and dedication, the BBC, FME and all of our partners globally for their incredible support and encouragement across the last five series.
“But chiefly, our thanks go to Merlin’s remarkable and loyal audience around the world for their enthusiasm for the characters and Camelot universe.”
BBC’s Danny Cohen also said: “Merlin’s mix of magic, adventure and humour quickly became a hit with BBC One audiences and has continued to thrill families over the last five years on Saturday nights. I admire the creators’ decision to end Merlin on a high, but also know that we will miss it in the BBC One schedule.
“On behalf of BBC One I would like to thank Shine and all those involved in the making of the show both on and off screen. I hope fans will tune in over the coming weeks to see the spectacularly dramatic final episodes, and we have ambitious plans for new drama in the Saturday evening slot in 2013.”
Series Colin Morgan who played also expressed her gratitude towards the fans and the show. She said “From the beginning this was always going to be a five year journey that we embarked on and I think the show has run its natural course. The show has grown and grown each year and now we’ve arrived at its strongest point and we’ve achieved what we set out to do… I know this is the end, and I know this is goodbye, but thank you for being there on the journey with us because it has been a lot of fun!”
