Can a reality show go entirely wrong, turning love into someone’s worst nightmare? For Angela, that is exactly what happens. Angela, the protagonist of Egor Abramenko’s upcoming film, titled ‘God’s Country’, participates in a reality show with her boyfriend, Kyle. At first, the rules of the show ‘Love Without Borders’ seems simple. Its contesting couples, being foreign fiancés, must tie the knot or put an end to their relationship. Angela and Kyle does the same and travel to Kyle’s hometown in Kentucky, to get married within the 90 day time slot, except the so called charming town harbors several sinister secrets. Once the cameras stop rolling, Angela witnesses murders, cult atrocities and a total bloodbath.
The plot for ‘God’s Country’ pretty much makes it clear that the place is anything but any God’s country. If Angela needs to survive, she will have to go back to her own past in hopes of overcoming her present.
Rumored to have Melissa Barrera, the popular star from movies such as ‘Scream 4’, ‘Keep Breathing’ and ‘In the Heights’, in the lead role, ‘God’s Country’ promises a refreshing plot and potential chilling sequences. The combining of modern day entertainment mediums with horror is a clever approach as it has not been attempted much especially with reality shows, the presumed “guilty pleasures” of modern audiences, according to public opinions.
Who Constitutes the Crew?
As mentioned above, Egor Abramenko, the established Russian director will be supposedly taking up the directorial role in ‘God’s Country’. Producers Matt Reeves, Rafi Crohn, Ara Keshishian, Petr Jákl and Adam Kassan will be joining the crew for this upcoming thriller. Will Soodik is presumably the writer for the feature film.
Egor Abramenko has displayed his creative skills in a number of works such as ‘Sputnik’ (2020) and ‘The Passenger’ (2017). He is also known for his work for brands such as McDonald’s, Google, IKEA and so on.
The feature film had reportedly commenced its production this month, with Toronto serving as the primary location. 6th and Idaho, Matt Reeves’ production company is known for their films, ‘The Batman’ (2022), and ‘Tales from the Loop’ and having them take on ‘God’s Country’s’ production ensures a series of nerve wracking visuals to complement the story. Matt Reeves is a renowned artist who also directed the Warner Bros’ 2022, ‘Batman’.
Although the entire cast list is yet to announced, Melissa Barrera playing the role of Angela in ‘God’s Country’ guarantees an entertaining watch as the actress is a fan favorite in thriller/ survival genres.
