Lee Sung Jin Takes Over Scriptwriting Duties
As Marvel Studios gears up for the production of several projects, including Captain America: New World Order and Wonder Man, the pre-production phase for the highly anticipated Thunderbolts is also gaining momentum.
Variety reports that Lee Sung Jin has been brought on board to rewrite the script for the upcoming ensemble film. Jin takes over from veteran Marvel Studios writer Eric Pearson (Black Widow, Thor: Ragnarok), who penned the first draft.
Reuniting with Director Jake Schreier and Actor Steven Yeun
Jin, the creator and showrunner of the forthcoming comedy series Beef from A24 and Netflix, will reunite with director Jake Schreier and actor Steven Yeun for the Thunderbolts project. Schreier directed episodes of Beef, while Yeun stars in the series.
First Feature Film Writing Credit for Lee Sung Jin
Despite having additional writing credits on shows like Tuca & Bertie and Dave, Thunderbolts marks Jin’s first writing credit for a feature film. In an interview with Variety, Jin expressed his excitement about joining the project, noting that there are many themes and intriguing aspects of the movie that he is eager to explore.
Thunderbolts Set to Begin Filming Later This Year
Thunderbolts is set to begin filming later this year. Director Schreier reportedly impressed executives, securing him the role at the helm of the project. While details about the film’s plot remain scarce, it is known to revolve around a group of supervillains (or characters who have played antagonists at some point in the MCU).
Harrison Ford to Play General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross
General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by the late William Hurt in the MCU, has been recast with Harrison Ford, who will make his debut in Captain America: New World Order. In the comics, the Thunderbolts have included Baron Zemo, U.S. Agent, the Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, and Abomination, all of whom currently exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadpool, Luke Cage, and Ghost Rider have also been part of the team at various points.
