Based on a 2016 novel of the exact title by Annie Proulx, “Barkskins” is an American drama TV series created by Elwood Reid as a limited series. The eight-part series was launched on National Geographic on May 25, 2020.

Here’s what we know about season 2 of Barkskins.
Will There Be a Season 2 of Barkskins?
Unfortunately, no. The series was canceled after the first season. The show is considered a limited series and usually, most limited series wraps the story in a single season and that’s how it is for “Barkskins” as well.
In an interview with The Playlist, Marcia Gay Harden who plays Mathilde Geffard was asked if she felt like the show could proceed further with a second or third season.
“It was talked about in halting sentences as any projected future for any television series is these days. That there’s more story to tell is incontestable that it ended on a cliffhanger and you’re screaming at the TV, “No, no. That can’t be it!” There have to be a couple more episodes uncontested,” she explained. The series originally planned to have a total of 10 episodes instead of eight but Elwood had to minimize it because of climate problems.
“He [showrunner] had to really cut out two hours, that’s a lot of storytelling, but still it’s a planned cliffhanger. And I felt at the end I wanted to know more about these characters. I want to go deeper and learn more about Matilda. I just want to know more about this world. So when we would talk about it, even still, it’s not a dumb thing that there’s a second season.” The actress adds, “I think all of that is so audience contingent and whether people find it interesting and want to tune in and talk about it, if it gets a buzz, that’s what it all is.”
Barkskins Season 2 Release Date
As previously mentioned, the show was officially canceled so there won’t be any new season of Barkskins in the future. The eight-part series ran from May 25 to June 15, 2020.
