The announcement came during a packed panel at NYCC, where a teaser clip showcased Pace’s deep, commanding voice as Thragg, the Grand Regent of the Viltrum Empire. In the footage, Thragg declares, “I am Thragg, bred to be the Grand Regent of the Viltrum Empire. I was created to rule… given power and fury and strength and rage to lead, to conquer, to kill.” Pace himself surprised the audience by joining the stage, describing his character as “stressed” and “dangerous,” but motivated by a desire to protect his people. “He’s a very formidable, scary guy for sure,” Pace added, coining the term “thragging” to capture the character’s intensity.
Invincible, based on Robert Kirkman’s acclaimed comic book series, follows Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun), a young superhero grappling with his Viltrumite heritage and the brutal realities of heroism. The show has garnered praise for its mature themes, visceral action, and star-studded voice cast, including Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson, J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man, and recent additions like Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Conquest.
Thragg, a pivotal antagonist from the comics, is known for his unmatched brutality and leadership among the Viltrumites, posing the greatest threat yet to Mark and Earth. Pace’s casting has sparked excitement among fans, who have long speculated on who would bring this iconic villain to life. His previous roles in projects like Foundation and Guardians of the Galaxy demonstrate his ability to portray complex, imposing figures, making him a fitting choice for the role.
The teaser also hinted at escalating conflicts, with glimpses of epic battles and new alliances. Showrunner Kirkman teased that Season 4 will delve deeper into the Viltrumite lore, exploring themes of power, legacy, and morality. With production wrapping up, anticipation is high for what promises to be the series’ most ambitious chapter yet.
As Invincible continues to dominate the superhero genre in animation, this casting news underscores Amazon’s commitment to high-caliber talent. Fans can expect more reveals in the coming months leading to the March 2026 premiere.
