Johnny Orlando’s second album is getting a second act. The Canadian singer announced that Like We’re Lovers — the deluxe edition of Songs for Young Lovers — arrives November 6, with a new single, “Praying Mantis,” due next Friday.
“This is an extension of the album & the start of a new world,” Orlando wrote in the announcement. The parent record is only five months old, which makes the turnaround brisk even by modern pop standards, where a deluxe can land on streaming within weeks of the original.
Songs for Young Lovers arrived June 12 on Position Music, a 12-track, 34-minute set that swapped his earlier electro-pop gloss for stripped-down arrangements, Britpop guitar and a closing bossa nova lullaby. Reviewers read it as a reset after a self-imposed break that followed 2024’s Ride EP and his 2022 debut, All the Things That Could Go Wrong.
The rollout ran through four singles: “Heads Up,” “Have Your Lovin’,” “Oh!” and opener “Charlotte,” which Orlando described as “not about one person, it’s about that phase of just going out, making mistakes, and not overthinking anything.”
He previewed the record with three underplay shows in June — Baby’s All Right in New York, Toronto’s Opera House and The Echo in Los Angeles — before a physical release followed on September 25, including a ruby red vinyl pressing and signed copies.
The audience behind it is sizable: more than a billion global streams and roughly 26 million social followers, a base built since he was a kid uploading cover songs to YouTube.
“Praying Mantis” will be his first new song since the album cycle began, and the title suggests the deluxe isn’t a scrapbook of leftovers. Orlando is billing it as the opening of a phase rather than the end of one — a framing that has become standard practice as artists use deluxe editions to reset a campaign’s clock without starting a new one.
The September vinyl run already put Songs for Young Lovers on shelves. Orlando isn’t done with it yet: “Praying Mantis” lands next Friday, and the fuller version of the story, Like We’re Lovers, on November 6.
