Inspired by real events, this upcoming thriller is sure to give you chills. Rumored to star Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara in the lead roles, ‘The Island’ follows a couple who decides to live in a deserted island during the 1930s, away from civilization. But when a passing millionaire accidentally turns them into a newspaper sensation, their privacy is invaded by a Countess and her two lovers, wishing to take over the island and build a luxury hotel. What follows is a series of infidelity, betrayal and murder combined with the impeccable timing of nature conveniently turning against the group.
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are established actors known for their roles in ‘Joker’ and ‘Nightmare Alley’ respectively. The couple’s chemistry is as zealous in reel life as it is in their real life and consequentially, the upcoming film is predicted to be as exhilarating as their previous works.
Pawel Pawlikowski to Direct the Film!
The popular Polish filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski will potentially be directing ‘The Island’. Pawel Pawlikowski is known for his movies ‘My Summer Love’ and ‘Cold War’, winning several accolades such as the award for Best Director at Cannes Film Festival. Pawel Pawlikowski is known for his unique direction styles wherein he changes the color tones of his films based on the setting of the story. In ‘Cold War’, the entire film is shot in black and white frames used to indicate the Post World War Era and the moral perils of the protagonists. A similar palette is used in another one of his films, ‘Ida’.
Not much is known regarding the upcoming film as it is currently under development. But ‘The Island’ is expected to be shot in Fuerteventura, Spain. Tanya Seghatchian, John Woodward, Mario Gianani, Lorenzo Gangarossa, Ewa Puszczynska and Reno Antoniades will be forming the production team. Also, Pawel Pawlikowski is supposedly the writer for the film.
What to Expect?
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara have previously starred together in movies ‘Her’ and ‘Mary Magdalene’ and their notable performances in both, demonstrate a natural sync that they present through their given characters. Though the cast list is yet to be announced, the same energy can be expected in their roles for ‘The Island’.
