Created by Ben Falcone who also stars in the show, “God’s Favorite Idiot” is an American workplace comedy series for Netflix which premiered on June 15, 2020, consisting of eight episodes.
God’s Favorite Idiot follows the tale of a “mid-level tech employee, Clark Thompson (Falcone), who finds love with co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy) at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God,” as per Netflix. The giant streamer also assured that “There’s roller skating, a lake of fire, and an impending apocalypse.”
When the series debuted it mainly received negative reviews but was hugely popular among the audience and hence, fans are looking forward to Netflix to continue the next story. Well, here’s what we know about it when it comes to season 2 of God’s Favorite Idiot.
Leslie Bibb on playing as the villain
In a chat with E! News, Bibb disclosed that she was “lucky” to be cast on the recently released show in which she played as a villain. “villains are fun”, she added.
“I was like, ‘Wait, are you punking me?'” Bibb stated when she found out that she could probably depict the leader of Hell in God’s Favorite Idiot. “‘I don’t think I even have to read it.'”
Bibb eventually did read the scripts, but ended up “laughing so hard” and anxious at the same time as she thought that the casting directors would take off in a new direction. Generally because had discovered her inspiration for the role from actress Reese Witherspoon’s character of Tracy Flick in “Election.” Comparatively, just like Whitherspoon’s character Tracy, Bibb’s role as Satab also had “a chip on her shoulder.”
“I just knew when I read it, how I wanted to see her,” she said to E! News. “She’s very mercurial. It’s like a petulant child.”
Will God’s Favorite Idiot return with a Season 2?
It was disclosed by Deadline in 2021 that filming for the first season concluded way earlier than the scheduled time. Originally, God’s Favorite Idiot was planned for a sixteenth-episode season, however, production stopped after finishing only eight episodes.
“We are so sad to leave Australia, as it has truly felt like home to us this past year,” Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone said in a declaration after production stopped in June 2021. “We were so lucky to have had the best, hardest working Australian cast and crew. We are so proud of God’s Favorite Idiot and cannot wait to share it with everyone.”
Their emotions were resounded in an announcement from Netflix, also delivered by Deadline, that noted, “We’re grateful to our creative partners Ben and Melissa, along with our amazing cast and crew for their hard work and dedication to bring this show to life.” The giant streamer also pointed out that the series would be filmed in “two batches of eight,“ rather than “all at once.” Netflix has not provided any update on whether each batch of episodes will be considered half or an entire season.
God’s Favorite Idiot Season 2 has been canceled!
The movie God’s Favorite Idiot debuted on Netflix, and there were a lot of rumors that a new season might not happen very soon because it didn’t impress many people.
Though the show featured two outstanding actors in the lead roles, its detractors had plenty to say about its subpar performances and badly written substance.
Thus, it came as no surprise at all that the show’s creators chose to end it shortly after the first season concluded. Therefore, whether you thought highly of it or not, a second season of the program developed by Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy isn’t currently in the works.
Also, there’s a slim chance that the producers decide to start filming as soon as possible given that we already know the actors have received payment for sixteen episodes. That being said, only time will tell what the show’s viewers can expect. Do watch out for more updates!
