Frankie Drake Mysteries’ end left fans clamoring for more, but sadly, there’s no new season update from creators and showrunners yet. The crime drama series first landed on CBC in November 2017 and ran for three additional seasons with season four’s last episode airing in March 2021. The previous installment left several loose threads dangling regarding whether Trudy survives the gunshot or is he dead? And what changes in Frankie and Sabestian’s relationship after that one close moment following Ned’s murder? What happens to the story of Mary Shaw after she defeats those wicked private detectives? And lastly, how does Jack face his family after stealing a valuable from Ned, Nord,, and Frankie? Well, there are certainly some answers that we need to know about. With that said, is Frankie Drake Mysteries returning for the fifth season or not? Here’s everything revealed, known about a possible season five of Frankie Drake Mysteries.
Frankie Drake Mysteries Season 5’s Renewal Status
CBC has not yet greenlit the Lauren lee Smith starring series for a fifth season. And unfortunately, there will be no season five because the series has come to a close. In 2021, the female lead took to Instagram to officially confirm the news. Smith posted a happy picture from one of the series episodes featuring her alongside her other crime-solving partners holding cocktail glasses in her hands, with a heartfelt caption, “
We ❤️ you
Thank you so much for supporting and watching the last 4 seasons
We are so grateful to have been able to tell these stories and bring these incredible characters to life.
From the bottom of our hearts thank you for making it possible for the last 4 years.” Although fans had a bittersweet moment with this announcement, there was no way to get the train running for another season.
Christina Jennings, who executive produced the show announced it ahead of season four’s premiere date. Jennings said, “We can confirm that Frankie Drake Mysteries will not be continuing beyond this season “We would like to thank the incredible cast and crew, and the fans for all of the love and support over the past four years. We are so proud of this show and look forward to sharing the final two episodes.
Frankie Drake Mysteries Season five’s Possible Storyline
Frankie Drake centers around the story of Frankie Drake, the first female private detective in Ontario from 1920 to 1929. Frankie works on an array of cases that don’t come under the police jurisdiction. Trudy Clarke is the co-partner of her all-female detective agency, while Mary Shaw, a morality officer from Toronto, and Flo Chakowitz often lend their help to Frankie and Trudy.
Last season had a shocking revelation for Frankie, who discovered that her dead father, Ned is alive, and is involved in a secret thief society, Brothers of the Crooked Dangler. Furthermore, the female detective assists her father in stealing an expensive telescope in possession of his partner-in-crime. While getting to the brotherhood rings, Ned succumbed to his wounds after he is stabbed by Desmond.
The season ends on a cliffhanger and is not what we call a deeply satisfying closure. Since 2017, fans are desperately waiting for a spin-off movie that completes the picture, however, there are no words about it or a series sequel at the moment. But if a broadcasting network or streaming platform shows interest in the series, there is hope for fans.
Frankie Drake Mysteries Season five’s Casting details
Frankie Drake Mysteries has female-lead stars comprising Lauren Lee Smith as Frankie Drake, Chantel Riley as Trudy Clarke, Rebecca Liddiard as Mary Shaw, Sharron Matthews as Flo Chakowitz, and Wendy Crewson as Nora Amory, and Karen Robinson as Mildy Clarke. If a season five ever happens, fans would be delighted to see their favorites back on screens.
