Fidel Castro is a name that is embedded in Cuba’s History not just for being the prime minister and president of Cuba but also for his controversial decisions that led to a huge crisis for Cuba during the Cold War among others. Fidel Castro was a man who is often regarded as a dictator, receiving multiple assassination threats and yet had supporters of his own. Focusing on his life, this upcoming feature film will primarily explore Fidel Castro’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly of 1960. His visit to the UN at the time just after being named as the prime minister of Cuba was important for him and the country as a whole. Fidel Castro’s arrival and his ideologies received rapturous reception from the local African American community. The event expanded his relations with world leaders, black freedom fighters and diverse luminaries such as Nikita Khrushchev, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Malcolm X and Allen Ginsberg, to name a few.
Romulus Entertainment and Tempo Productions will be collaborating to develop this upcoming feature film which is to be titled as ‘Killing Castro’. Romulus Entertainment is an established production company with many popular projects such as, ‘The Banker’ which starred Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson and Nicholas Hoult, ‘City of Lies’ starring Johnny Depp, ‘American Woman ‘ which was released in 2019 and more. Founded by Piers Tempest and Jo Bramford, Tempo Productions is an England based production company who is known for their works, ‘Driven’ featuring Jason Sudeikis, Lee Pace and Judy Greer, ‘Bank of Dave’ a comedy drama, ‘The Honeymoon’ which was released in 2022, and Military Wives which starred India Amarteifio, Kristin Scott Thomas and more.
Eif Rivera to Direct ‘Killing Castro’
Commencing its filming in November this year, ‘Killing Castro’ will most likely have Eif Rivera as its director. Eif Rivera is a popular director whose works include, ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ and ‘FBI’. The screenplay for ‘Killing Castro will be composed by Colin Bateman and Leon Hendrix. His films include, ‘Watermelon’, ‘Wild About Harry’ and ‘Divorcing Jack’ , some of which are his own novel adaptations. Colin Bateman is a known novelist and screenwriter whose books include, ‘Mystery Man’, ‘The Horse with My Name’ and ‘Belfast Confidential’. He is also a recipient of numerous accolades. Leon Hendrix is another established artist.
Piers Tempest and Brad Feinstein will be joining the crew as the film’s producers. Brad Feinstein is the founder of Romulus Entertainment and is a known producer. Newark will potentially serve as the film’s location. With several biopics being developed, this is one to surely add to your watch list.
