Stories about Vampires or the genre itself have always been very popular with the audience. It’s no surprise that viewers were thrilled and found themselves on the edge of their seats when it was first released on October 10, 2014. It stars Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gadon, and Charles Dance.
Directed by Gary Shore, the film centers on Vlad (Luke Evans), who transforms into a monster known as a vampire to safeguard his family and kingdom. The film collected a whopping $217 million at the box office worldwide against a budget of $70 million.
It’s no surprise that plans about a potential sequel started surfacing after the release of the first movie ‘Dracula Untold.’ But so far a sequel is not released although it’s been almost 8 years since the first movie was out. Fans are wondering if there would be a follow-up of the Dracula story. Here’s what we know about Dracula Untold 2.
Will There Be a Sequel of Dracula Untold?
During an IFTN interview in 2014, the helmer of the movie Gary Shore stated, “The only people that can judge if there’s a sequel is the audience. The studio is completely reliant on the film doing well and people voting with their feet. As for whether I would go back and do a sequel, I think there is unfinished business there but it’s all based on the right script. I’d like to see Vlad in a different time and place, because we know this film happens 450 years before Bram Stoker’s Dracula so there’s a little bit of time to explore in between, and maybe a little after.”
Although the director showed interest in making a sequel there hasn’t been any concrete information as of July 2022. So chances are that it might take some time before the filmmakers fully come up with a plan.
Dracula Untold 2 Release Date: When is it?
As there have been no confirmations yet about a follow-up, we cannot be too certain. But both the director Gary Shore and the lead actor Luke Evans have always shown interest in a potential sequel. So anything can happen although we can’t exactly predict a release date since it might take years from now or it might just take a year. Let’s wait for further announcements.
The Cast of Dracula Untold 2
It’s not known who the cast members will be since nothing is revealed but Luke Evans will likely be playing the titular role of Vlad aka Dracula.
In an interview, the actor talked about a potential sequel. “We left it very wide open, you know, this is a character who could transcend many different times and different periods of history. Who knows. I’d love to bring him back in some concept or context, but honestly, you know as little as I do when it comes to what is going on in the dream rooms of Universal Studios. I really don’t know.”
Nonetheless, if things go smoothly we could also expect to see Sarah Gordon reprising her role as Mina. We would also get to see some new additions if the sequel introduces Van Helsing and Jonathan Harker.
Dracula Untold 2: What can we expect?
Plot details are completely kept under wraps for now.
In October 2014 at the Dracula Untold press meeting, Luke Evans was asked if anything is complete concerning the sequel. He replied with a firm “No.” Evans continued, “only that we’ve allowed it to have a perfect getaway to, he can go anywhere. Dracula’s immortal, and at the point where the movie finishes, we’re already touching on 500 years. So we’re dealing with a man who’s spent a long time walking, searching in a very lonely existence throughout time. Who knows what’s been through and who knows what he’s going to go to. The options are endless, and I think that’s where we want it to be.”
