Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 13 Renewal Status: Will it be renewed or canceled?
After 12 seasons, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” might be ending soon as two of the show’s creators intimated on social media that they had finished filming the show. Producer Jon Hayman said in a since-deleted tweet that the team had completed “shooting the last scene of the last episode of the final season.”
The long-running HBO comedy series hosted by Larry David is renowned for its lengthy intervals between episodes; before Season 9, the show took a six-year pause. With a new season every two years since then, the show has stayed steady.
Since HBO has always invited the show to air without having a set schedule, David has been reluctant to declare any one season as “Curb’s” final. The plot arc of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” begins in Episode 1 and concludes in Episode 10 of each season.
But according to a source who spoke with Variety, David’s current HBO contract expires this year. David will, therefore, need to sign a new contract with the network in order to continue with “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”
“When you sign up to do a season of ‘Curb,’ you’re signing up to do the final season of ‘Curb,’” producer Jeff Schaffer recently told IndieWire. “And I finally figured out why. It’s because when Larry does a season, he puts every idea he likes into it. So at the end of the season, there’s this hole — there aren’t any ideas he really likes — so how could he possibly do another season? He’s the only person on the planet who doesn’t think he’s going to come up with more good ideas.”
Schaffer told The Hollywood Reporter last year that although the production team filmed Larry’s death sequence as a potential Season 11 finale, it was ultimately cut from the show.
“We shot as if it was going to be the last one ever. I had to at least prepare for it,” Schaffer said. When asked about David’s reaction to the potential series-ender, Schaffer added, “He said, ‘I’m not ready to die.’”
