Following her enthralling performance in ‘Bridgerton’ as Edwina Sharma, Charithra Chandran is reportedly working on a new project titled as, ‘Arzu’. Being developed under Blink49 Studios, the series set in the 90s Bombay and will potentially have Charithra Chandran in the titular character’s role. Blink49 Studios is a known production company whose works include, ‘Ride: Never Let Go’, ‘Wild Cards’ and more. The company will possibly be joined by Unicorn Island Productions for ‘Arzu’. Some of the works under Unicorn Island Productions include, ‘A Little Late with Lily Singh’, ‘Battle of the Generations’ and more.
The rumored production team for the upcoming series include Carolyn Newman, Virginia Rankin, Lilly Singh and Polly Auritt. Carolyn Newman is the Executive Vice President at Blink49 Studios and is a known producer. Virginia Rankin is an executive producer at Blink49 Studios. Lilly Singh is a popular comedian/ youtuber and founder of Unicorn Island Productions. Polly Auritt is the Head of Development at Unicorn Island Productions. Geetika Lizardi is supposedly the showrunner for ‘Arzu’. Currently, the upcoming project is under development.
Plot for ‘Arzu’
Set in 1991, ‘Arzu’ takes place during the initiation of Globalization in India following which India’s economy is opened up to foreign investment for the very first time. While many in the country saw this as a step towards progression, for wealthy business families across the country, the move was one fraught with uncertainty. In Bombay, Arzu, the pampered daughter of a newspaper mogul, matures amidst this uncertain era of the country’s economy. She awaits a proposal from her millionaire boyfriend in fear that the country’s celebrated liberalization would end up souring his mood any further. Hoping to speed things up, she conveys an innocent gesture which unexpectedly causes all her plans to go awry. The result is Arzu escaping to New York City with her snobby aunt Parul on the pretext of attending finishing school. While Parul Bua’s has took to matchmaking for her niece, Arzu, revealing in the heady independence that New York offers, finds herself immersed on the brink of an idea that could revolutionize the nature of an entire industry back home. With catty debutante ball dramas and charms of her father’s smug protégé, Arzu has a huge task ahead- to prove her worth to investors so as to silence her critics. Yet, it is to be determined if Arzu would finally end up being independent freeing herself from the clutches of her rather conservative family members.
