And the adventure for the Vikings continues. Vikings: Valhalla is a sequel to “Vikings” that aired from March 3, 2013, to December 30, 2020, on the History channel.
The story takes place a hundred years later after the events of Vikings. The series follows the start of the end of the Viking era, underlined by the fierce Battle of Stamford Bridge in the mid-1060s. In November 2019 a sequel was announced titled “Vikings: Valhalla” which debuted on February 25, 2022, comprising twenty four episodes in total.
Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the second season can now rest assured as the series has officially commissioned for second and third seasons in March 2022. Without further ado, let’s get on with the deets.
Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 Release Date: When Is It Coming Out?
Vikings: Valhalla season 2 doesn’t have an official release date yet but we do know that the second season is on its way and we expect that it will air soon.
In an interview with Digital Spy, series creator Jeb Stuart revealed a few things before the first season was even launched: “I am just finishing the editing of the last episode of season two this week and I am dying to get it out there.”
Along with the second season, Netflix confirmed that a third season will happen as well, and Stuart disclosed about the third season and what the fans can expect.
“Season three is very exciting and my Vikings get out of Scandinavia, so we have lots of great surprises and stories for season three,” he explained.
Following the enormous success of the first season, Jeb Stuart published a statement (via Netflix) that said: “Thank you to the millions of you who have watched (and rewatched!) season one. The numbers have been mind-boggling and beyond my wildest expectations. I’m thrilled to be able to confirm that we wrapped and are already editing season two, and that production will start soon on season three.”
He continued: “While the storylines for Leif, Freydís, Harald, Olaf, Canute and the rest of our amazing cast are secret, I can say without hesitation that their journeys will be even more epic than what you’ve seen so far.”
The series creator also revealed that filming will take place in Ireland.
Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 Cast: Who Will Return?
Expect to see all the main characters returning in the upcoming season including
- Sam Corlett in the role of Leif Erikson
- Frida Gustavsson will portray his character as Freydís Eiríksdóttir
- Leo Suter will return as Harald Sigurdsson
- Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will play the role as Olaf Haraldsson
Additionally, fans also expect to see Soren Pilmark and Bradley Freegard in the upcoming season to reprise their roles as Søren Pilmark as King Sweyn Forkbeard, and King Cnut respectively as they both have unfinished business to resolve.
What To Expect In Season 2 Of Vikings: Valhalla
Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger and it’s likely that the story will continue in the next season.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Star Leo Suter talked about his character Harald and a potential romance with Freydis in the upcoming season. He said: “These are two people who are… they have a lot to talk about and they work so well together. But at the same time, there are big forces and big passions that are pulling them apart, and as with any sort of love story, there’s… it’s so simple in some respects, but also so complicated in other ways.”
Fans can also see more about Leif who vows to seek revenge for who lost his close warrior companion Liv.
In an interview with Newsweek, Stuart teased that the vikings will explore into the wider world in season 2.
“They were great traders. So they went to Constantinople, they went to Egypt, they went through the Middle East,” Stuart said. “Viking DNA is found almost all over that part of Europe. They went to the Iberian Peninsula and obviously England and Ireland.”
He added: “So you can probably guess that my vikings are going to get on their boats and explore a little bit.”
