Victoria Monét spent three years between albums, and came back with a 22-track one. Frequency of Love, the follow-up to the record that won her three Grammys, is out now — and Toronto already has a night carved out for it.
Live Nation Ontario delivered both pieces of news at once: the album’s arrival, and word that tickets for Monét’s Nov. 21 stop at Coca-Cola Coliseum are on sale.
The set, on Lovett Music/RCA, stacks guests across its runtime — SZA, Bruno Mars, Bryson Tiller, Leon Thomas, Chlöe and Lucky Daye, plus Monét’s five-year-old daughter, Hazel, who appears on “You Mean the World to Me.” Lead single “Let Me” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in June, followed by the Kaytranada- and D’Mile-produced “Reach Out” and the yacht-soul cut “Juicy.”
Expectations are not low. Jaguar II, released in 2023, scored six Grammy nominations and three wins at the February 2024 ceremony: best new artist, best R&B album and best engineered album, non-classical. Monét has said the aftermath flipped her from beloved underdog to a target, telling The Associated Press that with millions of supporters come millions of haters — and that deciding who to listen to is what the album is about.
The tour opens Oct. 27 in Raleigh, 27 cities in all
Monét’s headlining Frequency of Love Tour runs from late October through Dec. 17 in San Francisco, with two Canadian stops on the books: Toronto in November, then Vancouver. Coca-Cola Coliseum, the roughly 8,000-seat arena at Exhibition Place that’s home to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, hosted her once already this year — as a special guest on the European leg of Bruno Mars’ The Romantic Tour, the same run that produced their new duet, “That’s Why I Love You.”
The stretch between albums wasn’t idle. Monét, 37, graduated in May from Pasadena’s Institute of Culinary Education as its top student, an externship at a Toluca Lake supper club included, per the Los Angeles Times. She also launched the Frequency of Love Foundation, a youth education and wellness initiative that tourgoers can fund with a $1 add-on at checkout.
By the time she reaches Exhibition Place, the album will be seven weeks old and the songs will have had a full autumn to settle in. Toronto gets to hear what she does with them.
