The Irregular is a British supernatural crime drama television series created by Tom Bidwell for the giant streamer, Netflix. The series is inspired by the book of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it is set in the Baker Street Irregulars under the supervision of Dr. Watson who saves London from the mysterious phenomenon.
The Irregulars is distributed by the Drama Republic. The first season was released on March 26, 2021, with a total of eight-episode.
The series revolves around a bunch of teenagers on the freeways of Victorian London who called themselves the Irregulars that are working under the supervision of John Watson to unravel increasingly difficult supernatural cases while looking for Sherlock Holmes.
Seemingly, the first season did receive quite positive reviews and the second season was rumoured to have renewed just before the series debut premiere. However, things didn’t go as planned after the debut season in March 2021. Now here arises a question, are we getting a second instalment of The Irregulars? Let’s find out below.
The Irregulars Season 2: Is it renewed?
Unfortunately, there won’t be a second season of The Irregulars. The series was cancelled by Netflix on May 5, 2021, and therefore season 2 won’t be happening.
More or less, this came as a huge surprise and fans were dismayed by the sudden cancellation news as the series managed to enter the number one place in the US and UK top 10 most popular series when it was aired in March 2021.
Series creator Tom Bidwell expressed his interest in the show’s continuation while speaking to Radio Times.com, “Season two, season three – we’d love to do if we get a chance.”
He continued: “There’s almost too much story in season one! We certainly had to move some out of season one to kind of make space. So yeah, if we, if we’re allowed to come back, we will hit the ground running for sure.”
“I would love to,” agreed Royce Pierreson, who plays Dr Watson. “ I think it sets up perfectly. I mean, there’s so much in this season, Tom gets so much into it.
“But I think that’s so we can go so much further. I love playing Watson. There’s so much more I want to do with them. Yeah, sign me up.”
Star Thaddea Graham added: “I think the entire team, cast and crew and in the production office and everyone, we’d all be dying to come back for season two.”
“We really made a little family on that show, and I would love to work with them again, and I think that the world that Tom has created and set up, there’s so much to explore in it.”
The supernatural drama had earned mixed to a fair amount of decent reviews from the audience and critics alike. Despite the show’s popularity and the cancellation news, we’re still hoping for the return of The Irregulars season 2.
The Irregulars Season 2 Release Date: When is it?
Although the show has been cancelled, if there’s a possibility for the show’s return, we’d likely get to see the new episodes sometime in 2022 or early 2023.
The Irregulars season 2 cast: Who’ll be in it if there’s a second season?
The cast members of the first season of The Irregulars include Darci Shaw (as Jessie), Thaddea Graham (as Bea), Jojo Macari (as Billy), Mckell David (as Spike), Harrison Osterfield (as Leopold), and Royce Pierreson (as Dr. John Watson) and sadly, the series is cancelled. We’ll have to find new shows to watch during our leisure time.
Before Netflix axed The Irregulars’ actor Henry Lloyd-Huges’ seemed positive that the scriptwriters would find a way to make his character return.
He said: “I don’t understand how it’s going to function,” if you’re able to unlock the mysteries of time and space then I’ll give it a shot. That is all I will say.”
As for the plot, there won’t be any since the show has been cancelled.
