The fans of the academy winner, Spider-man: Into the spider-verse are in for a treat as the sequel to it is in the works. Sony greenlit the animated superhero movies ahead of the premiere of its first installment. Although the network released an official statement confirming the same in November 2019. But disappointingly, like a host of films, this flick could not stick to its April 2022 release date due to the pandemic slowing down production operations globally. Following a changed airing schedule, Sony has recently announced its new airing date. And we finally know how long the wait would last.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2: Release date

First things first. The sequel to the animation film is keenly awaited by fans all over. So, when is the follow-up coming out? We have got the answer. Sony has decided to release the second part theatrically on 7th October 2022. Originally, the film was scheduled for an April 2022 release. Nothethess, due to the delay in productions, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 was pushed back. 

Spider-Verse one was a smash hit in audiences and garnered positive reviews for its unique animation, and riveting storyline, and solid characterization. If we go by the box office collection, the flick grossed over $375.5 million. That’s a huge number!  

Yet the fans have too many reasons to rejoice with a spin-off of the flick in making. The screenplay of this spin-off will be by Bek Smith, while Gwen Stacy will take the center stage of this all-female Spiderverse film. We will potentially see the Spider-woman, Jessica Drew alongside Cindy Moon in the spin-off. 

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2: Plot

Though the sequel’s plot is under the wraps, still we have a few assumptions about the direction of the future narrative. According to sources, the follow-up to the Spider-Verse will explore an intimate relationship between Morals and Stacy. Amy Pascal revealed in an interview that the original script penned down by Peter Lord, had a story of this story, yet this part was not included in the first part due to technical issues. So, we can happily expect more of it in the sequel. 

Moreover, the malicious, Kingpin might also take up a side-story in the Spider-Verse flick. It is safe to say given the events of the first chapter that confined him to the bars. 

Without giving away too many spoilers, we can assure that the animation film will be visually appealing as well as bring in more thrill and excitement.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2: Cast

 Although the cast of the Spider-Verse 2 flick is not officially disclosed, still it is safe to say that the original cast may return for the follow-up. With that, expect Shameik Moore reprising his role as Miles Morales alongside Hailee Steinfeld bringing the character of Gwen Stacy to the screens. Besides them, Jake Johnson would voice Peter B. Parker while Kimiko Glem, the Orange Is the New Black fame, would voice Peni Parker. Sadly, Mahashala Ali will not join the cast as its character, Aaron Davis (Prowler) meets a deadly fate in the predecessor. We are also hoping to see Spider-Man 2099 ( Isaac) in some capacity as its cameo in the first installment was liked by the audience. It is safe to assume that Morales will also make a comeback to the second part. Miles’s mom and dad will be voiced by Luna Lauren Velez and Brian Tyree Henry respectively. 

Joaquim Dos Santos will take up the directorial role with Kemp  Powers and Justice K Thompson. Joaquim is known for its unique creative vision in the world of animation. Some of his widely acclaimed works are Dreamworks’ Voltron: Legendary Defender and Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra, 

David Callaham will co-write the screenplay with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Lord and Miller will also appear as the series’s producers alongside Amy Pascal, Avid Arad, and Christina Steinberg. 

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2: Trailer

The animated film is still in the early days, and the cast and crew have not yet gone into production. Thus, the trailer will not be out for a long time. But we will update the blog after we have more concrete details about the sequel. So keep watching this space for more.
