‘Crongton’, a new project under New Pictures is a drama series that will narrate the journey of McKay and the strength he finds in his family following the loss of his mother. New Pictures is a known production company whose works include, ‘No Escape’ which is created and written by Kris Mrksa, ‘Dalgliesh’ an ongoing series, ‘Cobra’ a drama which had its first season in 2020, ‘Catherine the Great’ which is written by Nigel Williams, ‘White House Farm’ a mini series based on true events and more.
The upcoming series is an adaptation of the 2016 book by Alex Wheatle titled as ‘Crongton Knights’. It is one among the many books in the series with the other ones being, ‘Straight Outta Crongton’, and more. Featuring the same plot as the novel, ‘Crongton’ is set in the fictional town (the title of the series) where McKay lives with his family. However, life has been tough since his mum died. His dad is always busy working almost all hours to run the house. His brother, always out riding the streets and tempting trouble. As for McKay, he is on a mission to help out a girl and in the process finds himself surrounded by a swarm of enemies including a friend’s crazy ex-boyfriend, some hood-rats, and a violent gangster with a vendetta. Soon the trouble finds its way to his home and McKay ends up feeling responsible for the whole situation. While he never asked for it in the first place, the particular night of adventure and danger does not leave him facing his enemies alone as he will soon find out what friendship means and how important it is to stick with your family.
Status, Location, Crew and More
Currently, the upcoming series is in its development stage. Yet, our sources suggest that the filming of ‘Crongton’ is set to commence sometime in March, next year. Yorkshire, United Kingdom, will be serving as the primary location for the upcoming series. Joining the crew for ‘Crongton’ are writers Archie Maddocks and Haleema Mirza. Archie Maddocks is an emerging artist whose works include, ‘Intergalactic’ which premiered in 2021 and more. Haleema Mirza is another surfacing screenwriter whose works include, ‘The Question’ which premiered in 2013 and ‘Secret Invasion’ which premiered in 2023.
‘Crongton’ will most likely premiere in CBBC, a children’s television channel under BBC (a British broadcasting channel). With the writers’ strike continuing, the dates for the commencement of this upcoming series does retain the possibility of being postponed.
