Ron & Aussie, a production company based in Canada is reportedly developing their second feature film titled as, ‘Mourning-Side’. To be shot is Toronto by Spring, next year, the feature film will follow the struggles of the working class in the city Scarborough. Ron & Aussie will be developing the upcoming feature film alongside Red Hill Entertainment and Elevation Pictures. Red Hill Entertainment and Elevation Pictures are other known production companies based in Canada.
Craig Fleming, an emerging producer will be joining the crew for ‘Mourning-Side’ as its producer alongside Ron Dias and Joanne Jansen, the founders of Ron & Aussie. Ron Dias is primarily known as an animator and his works include ‘Bite of a Mango’ which he directed, ‘Friends with Benefits’ which premiered in 2016 and ‘Mariposa’ a short film which premiered in 2018. Additionally, Ron Dias will be directing the upcoming feature film. Joanne Jansen who will also be composing the screenplay for the upcoming feature film alongside Ron Dias. Joanne Jansen is known as an actress, writer and producer and her works include, ‘Self Made’ drama series and more. Other additions to the crew include Peter Malcolm, Nancy Morski, Martin Wojtunik, Kent Parker and Joanne Jansen.
Plot of ‘Mourning-Side’
Set in Scarborough, the upcoming feature film will focus on how common people struggle to survive where crime and drugs are rampant. Showcasing Amber, a bright 14-year-old girl, and her single mother Afifa, the film takes its audience through their everyday perils as they experience the trials and tribulations of living in this neighborhood. Following their participation at a local singing competition, Amber and Afifa celebrate their success by attending a block BBQ, expecting it to turn out as a safe space and a celebration to the end of summer. At the same time, the viewers are introduced to Nipsey and his brother Breeze who perpetuate a significant amount of violence and drug peddling within their streets, with Nipsey is doing whatever it takes to get out of the hood. Nipsey’s girlfriend, Shanice is also seen as she kicks him out for cheating following which he finds a gun in her car. Joshua, another primary protagonist, is a man in his 20s from a supportive Filipino
family, who has dreams of becoming a police officer and coincidentally decides to join his friends at the Morningside BBQ. What follows is a series of unfortunate events that unravel when the mentioned characters end up in the BBQ.
