MindHunter started in October-mid when David Fincher released his enthralling criminal series, Mindhunter Season 1 on Netflix. The 10-episode first season did not take much time to become one of the best-produced shows in the history of OTT platforms. Mindhunter transcended us to the late ’70s with its storyline, set-up, and characters. Revolving around the FBI’s criminal profiling program, the drama series is a fine work of research and execution. Immense time has been invested in discovering the horrifying crimes that portray most of the most wanted serial killers. Three sharp minds, Jonathan Goff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv are engaged in this operation of investigating every serial killer.
Despite being the audience’s favorite, it didn’t turn out to be a big hit. Later, we were equally pleased by the arrival of Mindhunter season 2 that was released in 2019. Now we are keenly looking forward to the third season of the same drama series. Although the criminal series is on indefinite hiatus by Netflix, the silver lining is that the contract has not been revoked. Fincher has confirmed that he would like to come up with a season 3 for the show’s fans. At present, he does not have the energy to take the show ahead as it demands time, detail, and research. While Flincher is indulged in the pre-production on the Killer.
The Cast of Mindhunter Season 3: Who’s in it?
Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, Joe Tuttle, Stacey Roca, Zachary Scott, Michael Cerveris, and Sonny Valicenti are expected to be seen on the screens if the series rolls out any time soon. The audience might see some new faces in the cast as well. Most of it depends upon the decade the season three would talk about. Some of the original conversations revolve around the show been set in the ’80s, ’90s, and early ’00s.
Different people have different theories about the show’s plot. But it will unfold cases as revealed in the book from which the series is inspired. For adding an element of drama, Fincher would not like to miss out on the Green River Killer case that was thrilling and equally dangerous as it almost took the life of former FBI Agent John Douglas, the real man behind all the cases.
Back in January 2020, the show’s leads, Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv, were released from their contracts in January and the show was put on “indefinite hold” by Netflix.
Then, David Fincher came out and put an even bigger dent into our hopes for seeing Mindhunter Season 3.
Mind Hunter Season 3 is Still a Mystery
It’s not known whether or not a third season will happen.
Sources close to Netflix have disclosed that the streaming giant and David Flincher have been in talks about bringing back the series for a third season. At least it’s on now, we kind of thought that the show was over food good but fans were quite delighted to learn this great news.
Flincher also revealed that “It’s a 90-hour workweek. It absorbs everything in your life. When I got done, I was pretty exhausted, and I said, ‘I don’t know if I have it in me right now to break season three.”
Back in October 2020, a spokesperson from Netflix revealed that Mindhunter season 3 could return: “Maybe in five years.”
It’s obviously not going to take that much amount of time for season 3 to return. If we’re lucky enough we might get a release in the next one or two years at least that’s what we hope.
At the moment, all that we know is that it solely depends on the discussion between Netflix and Flincher for a chance to bring back the series for another season run.
Mindhunter Season 3 Release Date
Showrunner David Fincher earlier confessed he is not certain about a third season ever happening, which is quite upsetting , but director Andrew Dominik has revealed plans for more episodes in the future.
“What they were going to do with Season 3 was they were going to go [to] Hollywood,” Dominik explained to Collider. “So one of them was going to be hooking up with Jonathan Demme and the other one was going to be hooking up with Michael Mann.”
Dominik continued: “And it was all going to be about profiling making it into the sort of zeitgeist, the public consciousness,” he said. “That was the season everyone was really waiting for to do, with when they sort of get out of the basement and start.”
He was then asked if the show is over for good to which he responded “I think probably. Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was an expensive show.”
He resumed: “honestly I don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic about dollars have to equal eyeballs.” With that said, it’s likely that a third season won’t happen but if renewed, it arrive sometime in 2023.
Where to watch Mindhunter series?

Update 23/2/2023
It’s Official, There wont be Mindhunters Season 3. confirmed on an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche
“I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment [for Season 3],” He added “I don’t blame them; they took risks to get the show off the ground… It’s a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness. The day our desires are not the same, we have to be honest about parting ways.”
