Cowboy Cosmonaut Films is reportedly gearing up for another production, this time belonging to the survival thriller genre. Titled, ‘The Bayou’, this thriller will narrate a group of friends who attempt to survive an attack imposed upon them by one of nature’s deadly predators. As chilling as it sounds, this upcoming feature film is seemingly commencing its production this fall with actress Megan Best, in talks for the lead role in the film. Cowboy Cosmonaut Films is a production company that will be leading ‘The Bayou’s development. Some of the films under the production company include, ‘The Fire Within’ and ‘The Morrigan’ which is supposedly in its pre-production stage.
Megan Best is a surfacing actress whose films include, ‘Finding My Daughter’ which starred Jesse Hutch and Cristina Rosato among others, ‘Missing and Alone’ which starred Verity Marks, and ‘Dawn’. Ashley Holberry, Mark Lane and James Harris will be heading the production for the upcoming thriller. Matthew Ninaber, an emerging director is rumored to be directing ‘The Bayou’. Some of the films directed by Matthew Ninaber include, ‘Psycho Goreman’, ‘Extraction Day’ and more. Gavin Mehrtens, the co-founder of Cowboy Cosmonaut Films, will be writing the screenplay for the movie.
Introducing the Plot
The survival thriller will narrate the story of a group of friends who attempt to make it out of the water-logged, inhospitable Louisiana swamplands wherein they are pursued by a group of alligators. As the gators target the group and succeed in capturing some, the remaining ones must survive being picked off one-by-one by the relentless pack of predators who are led by their ferocious alpha female leader.
Films that dealt with survival in swamps that were released in the past include, ‘Black Water’ which was released in 2007 and starred Maeve Dermody, Diana Glenn and Andy Rodoreda among others. ‘Black Water’ narrated the events that occur when a casual fishing trip turns deadly for a family that is pursued by a crocodile. Other films that have a similar storyline are ‘Lake Placid’ film series, ‘Crawl’ which was released in 2019 and ‘Rogue’ which starred Sam Worthington and Radha Mitchell.
Seeing as how the plot for ‘The Bayou’ appears to be a recurring concept in survival centered films, it will be interesting to see how the film brings novelty to the genre as a whole. As the film is currently under active development, viewers can expect updates on the additional cast and crew for the film soon.
