Prime Video’s upcoming drama has a novel plot that is bound to quench the interests of dance enthusiasts. Titled, ‘Étoile’, this dance themed drama focuses on an unforeseen collaboration, never thought before, between two world-renowned ballet companies, who swap their dancers and artistic staff in order to save their renowned institutions and what better place to set this plot in than Paris and New York! Being the home of the famous ‘Paris Opera Ballet’, Paris is one the first places that comes to one’s mind when they think about ballet. As for New York, the New York City Ballet which was founded in 1948 is still one of the most in demand.
‘Étoile’ is supposedly written and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the celebrated duo who brought to you, several acclaimed TV series such as ‘Gilmore Girls’, ‘The Return of Jezebel James’ and ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ which premiered its fifth and final season this year. However, ‘Étoile’ is not the first dance themed drama that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino created. In 2012, the duo wrote the screenplay for ‘Bunheads’ another dance themed series which premiered for a season. Starring, Kaitlyn Jenkins and Sutton Foster, among others, the series narrated the events in the life of Michelle Simms (Sutton Foster) after her husband’s death as she begins to organize dancing classes for the children in her husband’s town. The upcoming series will be produced by Scott Ellis, an established director/ actor whose notable films include, ‘She Loves Me’, ‘A Little Night Music’ and ‘A Christmas Story Live!’.
Updates on the Cast
Though the team behind the TV series is yet to announce a premiere date, there are speculations surrounding the potential actors who will be joining the cast for the TV series. Actors, Luke Kirby, Gideon Glick, Simon Callow, Lou de Laâge and David Alvarez are rumored to perform in the TV series. Luke Kirby is a Primetime Emmy Award winner whose films include, ‘Take This Waltz’, ‘Touched with Fire’ and ‘Mambo Italiano’. He has also starred in the series, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, in the role of Lenny Bruce. Gideon Glick is another popular actor who has also worked in Broadway Theater performances. Some of his popular works are, ‘Spring Awakening: Those You’ve Known’, ‘It Could Be Worse’ and ‘Maestro’. Simon Callow is a prominent actor who is the recipient of several accolades and has starred in a number of films such as, ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’, ‘Amadeus’ and ‘Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls’. Lou de Laâge is a popular French actress whose films include, ‘The Mad Women’s Ball’ and ‘Coup de chance’. David Alvarez is a talented actor/ dancer who has starred in, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Trece Campanadas’ and many more.
The filming of ‘Étoile’ will most likely begin in 2024 so there is a high chance that viewers will get to stream it, the following year!
