A race with a peculiar rule which upon winning, can give one whatever they wish for the rest of your life and a competition that doesn’t seem like one. The plot for this upcoming film set in the future is as chilling as it sounds and is bound to make you ponder upon the trivialities of life. Titled, ‘The Long Walk’, this upcoming feature film is an adaptation of the popular novel of Stephen King’ with the same name. Belonging to the dystopian horror genre, ‘The Long Walk’ was published in 1979 and is rumored to be the first novel that Stephen King had written. Upon its publication, the novel was well received.
With the production under active development, the filming of ‘The Long Walk’ is reportedly commencing soon in Humboldt.

Being taken up under, Vertigo Entertainment, ‘The Long Walk’ is adapted to the screen by James Vanderbilt who will be joining the crew for the film as its writer/ producer. Other additions to the team include producers, Roy Lee, William Sherak and Bradley Fischer. Vertigo entertainment is an American based film and television production company with several productions such as ‘The Lego Movie’ film series, ‘It’ film series (an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel with the same name), ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and ‘The Departed’. James Vanderbilt is a popular screenwriter whose works include, ‘The Murder Mystery’ film series, ‘Ready or Not’, ‘White House Down’ and more.
Roy Lee is the co- founder of Vertigo Entertainment while Bradley Fisher is the co- president of Phoenix Pictures. William Sherak is another established producer whose films include ‘Bangkok Dangerous’, ‘Truth’, ‘I Hate Valentine’s Day’ and more.
Plot of ‘The Long Walk’
The upcoming feature film will follow the original plot of the 1979 book with Ray Garraty joining a competition called “The Long Walk” in which 100 teenage boys embark on a walk with a simple rule – to maintain a speed over four miles per hour. The participants each receive three warnings in an hour and if they fail to keep up then they are shot dead. The last remaining one gets whatever he wants for the rest of his life. Despite the harsh environment that the rules are set in, the participants develop deep friendships. Yet, they are well aware that the other’s existence is a threat to their purpose.
The end of the book remains tragic and it is left to see how the upcoming film will add its own elements to the existing plot.
