This upcoming feature film has a plot set in a futuristic New York City wherein a man undergoes cryogenic stasis in hopes of curing his terminal illness. Titled as ‘42.6 years’, the project is being taken up under Big Indie Pictures alongside Party Over Here and Amazon MGM Studios. Big Indie Pictures is a known production company whose works include, ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ which premiered in 2023 and starred Alison Brie, Kiersey Clemons and Jay Ellis, ‘The Son’ which was directed by Florian Zeller and ‘Being the Ricardos’ which premiered in 2021 as a thriller drama. Craig Gillespie is rumored to direct this upcoming feature film with Seth Reiss composing its screenplay.
For the upcoming feature film, Andy Samberg will be joining the cast alongside Jean Smart, Betty Gilpin, Hong Chau and Diane Weist. Andy Samberg is primarily known for his role as Detective Jake Peralta in Fox TV’s hit sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. His other works include, ‘Hotel Transylvania’ film series, ‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’ which was directed by Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, ‘That’s My Boy’ which premiered in 2012 and ‘Storks’ an animaed comedy, to name a few. Jean Smart is an award winning actress whose works include, ‘Hacks’ a comedy that premiered its first season in 2021, ‘Fraiser’ which ran for 11 seasons, ‘Watchmen’ in which she played the role of Laurie Blake and more. Betty Gilpin is another known actress whose works include, ‘Mrs. Davis’ which premiered on Peacock, ‘Nurse Jackie’ which ran for 7 seasons and more. Hong Chau is known for, ‘The Night Agent’ which premiered in 2023, ‘The Whale’ in which she played the role of Liz and more. Diane Weist is another established actress. With a set cast and crew, ‘42.6 years’ will potentially commence its filming soon. The feature film will most likely premiere on Prime Video.
Plot of ‘42.6 years’
‘42.6 years’ is set fifty years into the future in New York City and follows Ben, a man in his 30s who who decides to end his relationship with Ruth, his girlfriend, who seemingly lacks emotional expression which eventually becomes unbearable for Ben. Following their breakup, Ben discovers he has a terminal illness and consequentially undergoes cryogenic stasis for 42.6 years, hoping to wake up in a future that has a cure for his illness. However, it soon becomes apparent that Ben’s disease is still incurable thereby rendering his sleep a waste. Yet, the future helps him in reconnecting with Ruth, who is in her 70s and single. Despite rekindling their relationship, Ruth’s emotional detachment continues to be a problem for Ben. The twist in the plot appears when Ruth is diagnosed
with an incurable disease and decides to undergo the same cryogenic process as Ben. This puts Ben in a dilemma as he wishes for her to spend her remaining time with him. But, a new revelation sets the stage for Ben to make a final, grand proposal to Ruth that can change everything.
