“UNETHICAL” is a year old, released without a major label behind it, and it is now sitting inside the top 200 songs on the planet. Faouzia announced the milestone herself on X, sharing both numbers together — 100 million Spotify streams and a place on the platform’s Global Top 200 — with the delight of someone still not entirely convinced the dashboard is real: “y’all really got unethical onto the global spotify charts ??? i have a song that’s top 200 in the whole entire world ?? huh ??”
What makes the entry unusual is the timing. The single arrived on Aug. 1, 2025 as a teaser for FILM NOIR, her debut independent album — 11 tracks issued Nov. 7, 2025 through her own FAOUZIA MUSIC INC., distributed by Stem. Global charts are typically seized in a release week, when label budgets drive radio adds and playlist placements. This one spent fourteen months climbing toward them.
Chart watchers tracking the debut reported the song moving better than a million filtered streams a day on its way to the No. 200 slot, volume usually reserved for singles with a marketing machine attached.
Spotify’s editorial team moved well before the global chart did. “UNETHICAL” put Faouzia on the cover of the Pop All Day playlist and on Pop Rising, the kind of placement that has historically preceded a breakout rather than followed one.
The singer, born in Casablanca and raised in Canada, built her early audience on classically trained vocals and singles like “Tears of Gold” and “Minefields,” her 2020 collaboration with John Legend. FILM NOIR was billed as her first release fully outside that system, and she has been candid that the audience, not a label, carried “UNETHICAL” this far. “i love you forever and im forever grateful,” she wrote.
The album has kept pace with the single. FILM NOIR has cleared 110 million global streams, landed on Apple Music’s Top Pop Albums chart, and was expanded in June with three additional tracks for a 14-song deluxe edition. Faouzia then took the record on an international tour that ran through North American theaters this summer.
“UNETHICAL” is not the album’s opener. It is track two, written for a record meant to be heard front to back in one sitting. The charts, it turns out, found it anyway.
