A new biopic, titled ‘La Grande Ambizione’ is rumored to be under development, this time featuring accounts from the public and private life of the Italian politician Enrico Berlinguer. Enrico Berlinguer was a member of the Italian Communist Party who was noted for his “modest and charismatic” behavior. He served as the secretary general of the party from 1972 until his death on 11 June 1984. Enrico Berlinguer has also composed several books such as, ‘Letters to the Heretics: Correspondence with the Leaders of the New Italian’ and ‘After Poland’. The upcoming Italian feature film will focus on Enrico Berlinguer’s life from the trip to Sofia in 1973 up to the speech at the National Unity Day in Genoa in 1978. National Unity Day is a day celebrated in Italy since 1919 to celebrate the victory of the First World War and the subsequent unification of the country. 1973 was significant in Enrico Berlinguer’s life as it marked one of the most successful years of his political career. His vision on socialism has a legacy of its own. The film is supposedly being developed under Vivo Film alongside, JoleFilm and Rai Cinema.
Vivo Film has produced a number of works such as, ‘Superluna’, ‘Chiara’, ‘The Peacock’s Pradise’ and ‘Miss Marx’. JoleFilm is an Italy based production company whose works include, ‘The Last Ride of the Wolves’ and ‘Ibi’. Rai Cinema’s production include, ‘Capri- Revolution’, ‘The First King: Birth of an Empire’, ‘Tale of Tales’ and ‘Suburra’.
Status, Location, Crew and More
Not much is known regarding the cast and plot of ‘La Grande Ambizione’, yet, the film is set to be directed by Andrea Segre. Being an established filmmaker, Andrea Segre is a recipient of numerous accolades. His filmography include, ‘Welcome Venice’ which was co- produced by JoleFilm, ‘First Snowfall’, a documentary featuring Jean-Christophe Folly, Giuseppe Battiston, Anita Caprioli and more, ‘A Planet in the Sea’ which was released in 2019 and ‘Shun Li and the Poet’ a drama. Andrea Segre will also serve as the film’s writer alongside Marco Pettenello. Marco Pettenello is a known screenwriter whose works include, ‘Shun Li and the Poet’, ‘L’ordine Delle Cose’, ‘The Last Prosecco’ and ‘The Right Distance’.
With the filming having commenced at the beginning of November, ‘La Grande Ambizione’ is predicted to be released in the following year. The upcoming feature film will be shot in Rome, Italy, a pivotal filming spot and the prime location for the events that originally took place in the life of Enrico Berlinguer.
