Designated Survivor: 60 Days Release Date: When is it?
In 2019, it was announced that Designated Survivor: 60 Days season 2 would be dropped in July 2020. Fast forward to August 2022, and still it has not been released yet.
Sadly, the announcement that Designated Survivor 60 Days had been commissioned for the second season was only just a rumor. In a conversation for the KBS Radio show in August 2021, main actor Ji Jin-hee disclosed that it would be difficult for them to build a season 2. The lack of updates or announcements from the creators strongly indicates that the chances of the series returning for a second run are quite bleak.
Designated Survivor 60 Days Season 2 cast and producers have not said anything. In 2019, tvN and Netflix premiered the critically and commercially successful first season. In 2020, a second season was shelved owing to actor and actress contract issues. No word concerning a second season has been released since then. There is no indication that the show would be renewed, although fans have theorized.
The cast and crew of Designated Survivor 60 Days have moved on. Since then, Ji Jin-hee has starred in D.P. Season 2 and The Road: The Tragedy of One. Other dramas Yoo Jong-sun directed include Penthouse and The Veil. The show may return despite the lack of news about a second season of Designated Survivor 60 Days. Stay tuned for updates!
Designated Survivor 60 Days season 1 recap!
Designated Survivor 60 Days has no season 2, so let’s summarize the first. South Korean political thriller Designated Survivor 60 Days premiered on tvN and Netflix in 2019. Ji Jin-hee plays Park Mu-jin, the Minister of Environment, who becomes interim president of South Korea when a terrorist assault kills the president and cabinet.
Mu-jin has 60 days as president until a new election, but he must deal with a North Korean invasion, a populist demagogue, and his own problems. Kind and idealistic, Mu-jin is inexperienced and naive. He is first intimidated by his challenges, but he learns to rely on his intelligence, advisors, and public support to lead the country through a difficult time.
Mu-jin defeats the populist demagogue, prevents conflict with North Korea, and uncovers the terrorist attack. People respect and admire him, and he leaves office feeling accomplished.
