Alanis Morissette has four nights booked at the YouTube Theater, a hashtag that reads like a dare, and — as of this week — a script that still isn’t locked.
“patty guggenheim and i putting the finishing touches on the 2026 script,” Morissette posted, sending fans “back into the swirl” of Butterfly with a Machete, the production she first staged as a sold-out Las Vegas residency last fall and is now carrying to Los Angeles for shows on Nov. 5, 6, 10 and 11.
The branding in her post — #4showsonly, #arocktraumedy — is the same framing the tour used in June, when the run was announced as “Butterfly with a Machete – A Rock Traumedy.” Her own description of the piece, posted at the time, promised “music, stories, insights, dance, video, sketch comedy, and always….rock n roll.”
It is not a greatest-hits revue. Press materials call the show a “confessional and multimedia, multi-disciplinary musical stage play” built on her songs, with storytelling and therapeutic insight threaded through a narrative that runs from her Ottawa childhood to global fame and the fallout that followed. No topic is billed as off-limits.
Music still anchors it. During the 2025 Las Vegas engagement at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the setlist leaned on Jagged Little Pill, with nine songs drawn from the 1995 album that sold more than 30 million copies and won Album of the Year at the 1996 Grammys — one of four trophies Morissette collected that night. She has seven Grammys in total.
The co-writer she named is a comedy performer, not a music-biz veteran: Patty Guggenheim is best known as Madisynn, the drink-slurping scene-stealer from Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. That casting hint lines up with the sketch-comedy element Morissette has flagged from the start.
The LA engagement will be the first official residency in YouTube Theater’s history, a marker for the 6,000-seat room tucked beside SoFi Stadium at Hollywood Park. Live Nation is promoting. Presales rolled out in June — Citi cardmembers on June 15, artist presale June 16, general on sale June 17 via Ticketmaster — before Morissette heads to Riot Fest in Chicago the weekend of Sept. 18.
Four nights, one machete, and a butterfly that keeps getting rewritten.
