Our unlikely hero, Wade Watts, a passionate player of the Oasis and James Halliday superfan finds himself in the running to become the champion of the challenge, but there are plenty of obstacles that stand in his way. The rest of the plot you’ll have to find out by watching the movie.
Tomb Raider
If you’re into online games, chances are that you’re also into movies that have been adapted from popular games, like Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider focuses on Lara Croft, a treasure hunter, and English archaeologist that often finds herself fighting bad guys while on her many adventures. Every movie in this franchise promises to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout and is action-packed enough that you won’t be able to keep your eyes off the screen for long.
The good thing about this franchise of movies is that there are plenty of titles that you can choose from. We’d recommend starting with the original movies starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, but there is also a more recent film that stars Alicia Vikander as our main heroine.
Unchartered
Another film for the game-to-movie buffs is Unchartered, inspired by the game of the same name. This 2022 film stars Tom Holland, who’s best known for his role as the teenage superhero Spiderman, where the movies he starred in are known as some of the most highly ranked from the franchise. But when he’s not throwing spiderwebs or jumping between buildings, Tom also has many other successful movies under his belt – including Unchartered.
With a star-studded cast, this movie follows treasure hunter Victor Sullivan who recruits Nathan Drake to help him find some lost treasure that has been waiting to be found for over 500 years. As the pair set off on their journey to uncover the loot, they realize that there are a lot more people who have the same plan as them – people whom they do not want to get on the wrong side of.
If you’re a fan of the classic heist movie or have ever played the Unchartered game before, this is a fun modern twist that we’re sure you’re going to love.
The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner is based on a very famous book trilogy, of the same name, by James Dashner. For some people, this means that they need to read every book before watching the movie, whereas other people enjoy going in completely blind and not knowing what to expect. This trilogy of films is a great easy watch that’s suitable for the whole family. It follows a group of teenagers who one day wake up inside a maze, with no idea what happened to them before they arrived in this mysterious location. As more teenagers start to arrive, the need to escape becomes more important. The rest of the movie follows them as they plan their escape, and learn that the maze is a lot more sinister than they once thought.
