Jade Empire is an action role-playing video game created by BioWare and published by Microsoft Game Studios in 2005 designed especially for Xbox exclusive.
As of now, there is no official announcement regarding Jade Empire 2. Will it happen? Probably not as it was cancelled before it was even announced.
We also know that developer BioWare was predominantly recognised as the Dragon and Mass Effect studio. It was reported that the game developers were working on a new game, a sequel to the Jade Empire. They eventually came out with a few reboots namely Jade Empire 2 to Jade Empire: Modern and Revolver. However, the project was called off by the studio without ever being officially declared. BioWare art director Matt Rhodes explained, “Between 2005 and 2008 I worked on Project Revolver, to celebrate, I sifted through the archives and blew 15 years of dust off some of my favourite pieces from that project.”
It started as Jade Empire 2.

Patrick Weekes, the lead writer on Dragon Age 4, revealed that it was extremely difficult for the studio to invest so much time and effort into the reboot Revolver only to have cancelled it internally. Ever since Revolver, BioWare has worked on other projects and the focus shifted more towards Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2.
Rhodes posted some images on Instagram with a caption that reads ‘‘Beginning its life as a sequel to Jade Empire, Revolver evolved and changed course many times throughout its development. I sifted through the archives and blew 15 years of dust off some of my favourite pieces from that project.’’
Will Jade Empire 2 ever return?
Unfortunately, no. It’s already 2021 and there’s no news or announcement about a sequel. BioWare developers also disclosed that they have “no current plans” to develop one. Although we really wish to see the Jade Empire franchise return for some more action as many fans wish the franchise to work on a sequel to the original game.
In July 2021, Mark Darrah shared a post on Twitter that captioned “Am I sad about there being no Jade Empire 2?
Turns out I’m carrying more of that around than I realized before making this video
Join me on Thursday (July 1st) to find out more.”

It seemed as though the developers have completely given up on Jade Empire 2. Way back in 2005, Ray Muzkya co-founder of BioWare stated that “BioWare definitely plans to continue the Jade Empire franchise.” We can’t help but wonder what’s taking so long for Jade Empire 2 to return? It’s already been 16 years since Muzyka stated that it could be that they’ve changed their minds and decided not to work on Jade Empire 2? If that’s the case, it’s sad news for the fans as they’re the ones eagerly waiting for the sequel’s return.
As per reports, EA is ignoring BioWare to create another Star Wars game though BioWare still attempts to get their permission. Perhaps, it’s also possible that BioWare will launch the Jade Empire 2 on a different platform other than EA. The wait is on!
We’ll update this post once we get more new updates on Jade Empire 2.
