Created and developed by Neil Cross and Tom Bissell, The Mosquito Coast is the follow-up version of Paul Theroux’s 1981 namesake novel, following the 1986 Harrison Ford film. The main character of the story is Allie Fox, an intelligent and idealistic inventor who, after growing disenchanted with the status quo in America, decides to leave the nation with his family. The federal government sends people to find them in Latin America as they look for safety and nirvana.
Apple TV Plus currently streams the drama series The Mosquito Coast. With two seasons already on the air, here’s everything you need to know about The Mosquito Coast season 3!
The Mosquito Coast Season 3 has officially been canceled!
Apple TV+ has decided not to move forward with a third season of the drama series, thus Allie Fox and his family will not be going back to The Mosquito Coast.
Though fans won’t get to see it venture into more well-known area from the book and its Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and River Phoenix movie adaptation, the series is partly based on Paul Theroux’s bestselling 1981 novel.
In the film The Mosquito Coast, Justin Theroux, Melissa George, Logan Polish, and Gabriel Bateman play Allie Fox, a brilliant inventor and obstinate idealist who uproots his family and embarks on a perilous journey to seek safety from the U.S. government, cartels, and hitmen.
Available on Apple TV+, the first two seasons serve as a kind of prelude to both the book and the Peter Weir-directed film.
In addition to giving Justin Theroux’s character Allie a past as a “highly intelligent enemy of the state,” they also gave George’s Margo—who in the book is just referred to as “Mother”—more depth.
In an interview with Deadline, author Paul Theroux stated that a third season “would segue into the book itself, and the movie’s search for a utopian community.”
However, at the conclusion of the second season, we are unsure of Margo’s independence or Allie’s involvement in this. He continued, “That’s the cliffhanger—the thrilling conclusion.
In Season 2, the Foxes travel far into the Guatemalan forest to visit with an old friend and her group of refugees, having just about survived their ordeal in Mexico. However, the Foxes run into problems when they get mixed up in a feud between a local drug lord and his family and this new haven. Allie and Margot take divergent routes to ensure their family’s future, disagreeing on whether to settle down or keep wandering. Depending on the result, the family will either stay together or be permanently divided.
