Boyd Quakawoot is back with a new project, this time focusing on a young boy who alongside his accomplices attempt to resist their school bullies. Titled, ‘The Windcatcher’, the series will narrate the story of Percy Boy, a unique and resourceful Aboriginal boy, Keithy Cobb and Daisy Hawkins who band together to take the local school sports day title away from the hands of grade five bullies, the “Wolf Pack”. But as Percy Boy trains with the help of his friends, he realizes that he possesses a supernatural ability that can help him in seeing Lost Souls, which is later revealed to be a gift passed down to him from his grandfather. Now, Percy Boy must rely on his friends, family, and community to overcome his fears, prove his resilience, and become an unstoppable force. Boyd Quakawoot will be joining the crew for this upcoming series as its writer.
Being developed under Unless Pictures, a production company, ‘The Windcatcher’ will have producers, Meg O’Connell, Drew Grove, Bernadette O’Mahony, Cailah Scobie, Donna Chang and Rachel Okine joining the production team for the upcoming series.
Cast, Location and More
Despite the information on the series being limited, we do have news regarding the cast for the film. Actors, Jessica Mauboy and Lennox Monaghan are reportedly in talks for the upcoming series. Jessica Mauboy is a singer and an actress whose popular works include, ‘Bran Nue Dae’, ‘Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home’ and more. Her music is also well known with some of the notable ones being, ‘Give You Love’, ‘Burn’ and ‘What Happened to Us’. Lennox Monaghan is an emerging actor who will potentially be debuting through the upcoming series. Other additions to the cast include, Max Turner another surfacing actor, Coco Greenstone (‘I Am a Woman’), Kelton Pell, Pia Miranda, Ngali Shaw (‘The Twelve’ and ‘Ben 10: Age of the Multiverse’) and Lisa Maza. Kelton Pell is an established actor whose films include, ‘One Night the Moon’, ‘Three Summers’, ‘The Gods of Wheat Street’ and ‘The Xrossing’. Pia Miranda who began her acting career through ‘Looking for Alibrandi’, an adaptation of a 1992 novel with the same name, is a known actress. Her filmography include, ‘The Tender Hook’, ‘Heat’, ‘Slant’ and ‘Surviving Georgia’. Lisa Maza is another singer and an actress who has starred in a number of works.
With a set cast, ‘The Windcatcher’ is supposedly commencing its production this year by the end of October with the location being Australia, home to the aboriginal community. So, stay tuned for the latest updates on this upcoming film.
